Udinese Sack Manager Sottil After Winless Start

Udinese have officially fired coach Andrea Sottil after a poor start to the Serie A season without a single victory so far. The club are expected to re-appoint former boss Gabriele Cioffi as his replacement.

The decision came after last night’s dismal 1-1 home draw against Lecce, Udinese’s ninth match without a win. Sottil departs after just six months in charge.

In total, he was given 50 games with 13 wins, 19 draws and 18 losses across all competitions. His staff have also been relieved of their duties.

Cioffi, who previously managed Udinese in 2021-22, is set to return this weekend for the trip to Monza. He has experience at the club, first as assistant before taking the main job.

Sottil had initially impressed by leading Udinese to a comfortable mid-table finish last term after arriving in the summer.

But this season has been deeply underwhelming with three defeats and six draws from nine winless Serie A matches so far.

The club felt a change was needed to turn around their fortunes and avoid slipping into a relegation battle in the months ahead.

It’s the third coaching change in the Italian league this season after Aurelio Andreazzoli replaced Paolo Zanetti at Empoli and Filippo Inzaghi took over from Paulo Sousa at Salernitana.
