In what might be the biggest signing in Serie A this summer, Romelu Lukaku has joined Roma on a season-long loan from Premier League side Chelsea. This is the third time Lukaku has moved to Serie A after two spells with Inter.

The Belgian joins former Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho in the Italian capital, finally escaping purgatory at Stamford Bridge.

Romelu Lukaku says he could ‘feel the warmth of the Romanisti even as an opponent’ and admits he was ‘impressed’ by the ambition of Roma owners.

“The welcome I’ve received from this club and its fans has excited me and given me even more motivation to give my all for my new team,” the Belgian forward said in his first interview as a Roma player.

“As an opponent, I felt the atmosphere of the Stadio Olimpico and felt the warmth of the Romanisti.

“It’s nice to know I’m a part of it today. I recently got the opportunity to speak with the owners, and I was impressed by their ambition,” he continued.

“Now we must work, be humble, and grow game by game. For my part, I can’t wait to be available to my teammates both on and off the pitch.”

Lukaku has already trained at Trigoria and is expected to be available for Friday’s match against Milan at the Stadio Olimpico.

Without the injured Tammy Abraham, José Mourinho’s side has looked toothless in attack this season, picking up just one point in their opening two games of the campaign against Salernitana and Verona.

Tiago Pinto also commented on Lukaku’s move to the capital.

“Knowing that Lukaku has chosen Roma can only bring us great satisfaction. With his arrival, we gain more experience, professionalism, and a drive to win,” the Portuguese director said.

“All our decisions are focused on increasing the squad’s competitiveness, and we continually assess their performances on the pitch. However, it makes us very proud to watch the fans greet Romelu with such excitement.”

Lukaku has won one Serie A title with Inter and has scored 57 goals in 97 league games with the Nerazzurri.
