Stefano Pioli has told La Gazzetta dello Sport he wants to offload some of his attackers in the January window and one of the reasons why is that he wants to give 17-year-old sensation Andrea Pinamonti exposure to the first team squad.
That is bad news for Gabigol and Stevan Jovetic. Gabigol has barely played for Inter since signing from Santos in the summer and is expected to go out on loan in January.
Jovetic, meanwhile, was left out of the squad that beat Sassuolo 1-0 on Sunday and sporting director Piero Ausilio confirmed it was due to tactical reasons.
Speaking about the club’s January plans, Pioli said:
“I expect to have fewer players, especially in the attack.
“I thrive above all on human relations and without the Europa League, the ideal number of players to coach is 23-24 at the most. It will be a transfer window of transition for everybody and I think that you cannot change certain values all that much in January.
We will do something, but let’s not forget that we are also affected by financial fair play.”
Speaking specifically about Jovetic, he said:
“We had a face-to-face [meeting] and he expressed a certain disapproval of certain decisions. I pick players who are ready, in every sense of the word.”
Asked about Pinamonti, Pioli was glowing in his praise for the youngster saying:
“I think he is the best attacker in the new generation.
“He has technical and moral values that a kid in his age rarely has.
“I want him in the first team now, he can help us a lot from now to the end of the season.
“This is one of the reasons that I asked management to reduce the attackers in January.”
