Claudio Ranieri believes “the worst is behind us” for Italian football, and is impressed by Frank de Boer at Inter.

The former Nerazzurri Coach shocked the world when he led Leicester City to the Premier League title, and the Foxes make their Champions League debut tomorrow.

Only two Serie A clubs made it to the Group Stage of the competition, but the Tinkerman believes calcio is on the up.

“I think the worst is behind us in terms of our football,” Ranieri told Extra Time.

“The Euros showed that we’re not as bad as some thought. We’re starting to see signs of a revival, for example Inter.

“Why Inter? Because you can already see De Boer’s hand at work. Coaches have to be given the right amount of time. It’s absurd to crucify them after one game.

“After that, Inter have a great centre-forward, [Mauro] Icardi has huge potential.”
