Chelsea are reportedly ready to make a £30 million bid for Aaron Ramsey, asthe Welsh midfielder’s Arsenal contract has less than 12 months to run.

The Blues will test the Gunners’ resolve after enduring a distraction last season when Alexis Sanchez, who joined Manchester United in January, and Mesut Ozil started the campaign in the final year of their deals.

The 27-year-old Ramsey scored 11 times in all competitions last season and Unai Emery will be desperate to keep hold of him, but Arsenal will want the situation sorted before the start of the season when the transfer window closes.

We saw with Sanchez that Arsenal are not adverse to selling to their rivals when backed into a corner, and Ramsey has not given encouraging signs that he will extend his 10-year stay.

The question is why are Chelsea interested in Ramsey. They have an abundance of midfielders. With N’Golo Kanté and Jorginho to to occupy two of the three positions in Maurizio Sarri’s midfield, that leaves the likes of Cesc Fabregas, Rob Barkley, Ruben Loftus-Cheek and potentially Ramsey all fighting over one place.
