Southern XC R5 2014 - QECP

Last weekend the Primera UK-Biking mountainbike team attended Southern XC Round 5, the last of this years Series. With double series points on offer, the pressure was on for the riders to perform well to tie up their final standings.

There had been reports on Facebook and the Singletrack website that the clays hills had become a bit slippery, and with a bit more rain the night before the Race the first riders on the course found this to be the case.

First off for the team was Josh and Sam in the youth race. Both riders have had an excellent season so far and both were out to cement their overall standings, which they Managed to do with Josh finishing 3rd for a 2nd overall place and Sam finishing 6th to seal 4th overall.

Next up was Barry in the Grand Vets. Barry has made big gains in fitness this year and this has showed in his racing, mixing it up with the guys at the front of the race. After a fast first lap, Barry settled in to 5th position and managed to maintain it to the finish. His best performance of the year, gaining him an impressive 7th overall in a very competitive Category.

Last off was Matt in the Expert category, along with Dave in Masters and Adam and James in Sport. Unfortunately Matt missed his gridding and ended up having to start from the back of the field, but a determind start saw him move up to 6th position. Coming in to the second lap the riders found that the course tape had dissapeared, resulting in a bit of a detour being taken for some of the front runners! Matt kept Ian Legg company for much of the race. Towards the race conclusion Matt managed to attack on the last hill to produce a gap to Ian and achieve an excellent 4th place and and 4th overall.

Dave stepped up from the Open category to the very fast Masters category this year and has managed very respectable top 15 results all season. A (very) fast final lap earned him 12th place and 10th overall.

In the Sport, Adam found himself in 8th position after the first lap and spent the rest of the race closing down 7th place Liam Keynes and almost managed it, but was 1 second short! A consistent season plus a great result last round saw Adam secure 4th overall. James had a bit of a bad round finishing in 16th, but good previous performances saw him take 8th overall.

The team have had a number of excellent results in the series this year, including many podiums, earning them 5th overall. Well done to all the guys and thanks to the series organisers.
