Refreshed Toyota Mark X unveiled: Starts from 2,380,000 yen



Japanese auto maker Toyota has revealed the Mark X luxury sedan. The X is offered with two engine options including a 200 HP 4GR-FSE 2.5 liter V6 and new 2GR-FSE 3.5 liter V6 power unit that cranks out 314 HP. The Mark X is available in rear wheel drive and all wheel drive forms (with 2.5 liter engine) and both engines are made available with a 6-speed Super ECT automatic transmission. The smaller engine delivers 13 kilometers with a liter of fuel while the more powerful variant gives you 10.2 kilometers (10-15 test cycle).

Toyota has increased both the width and track by 20 mm and also pushed the shoulder portion of the door trim for the front and rear seats outwards by 25 mm (total for left and right). The distance between the front seats has also been increased by 20 mm.

Highlight features include improved seat comfort, driver’s seat with motorized lumbar support function that shifts the seatback forward or back to improve back comfort during driving, a Plasmacluster Ions technology that helps combat bacteria, HDD navigation system and terrestrial digital TV tuner (for range topping models). There is also an Eco Driving Indicator that lights up to signify economical operation and an Eco Zone Indicator that shows throttle use.
Other features include Sport, Snow and Eco driving modes, Variable Gear Ratio Steering system (with electric power steering) which controls the angle of the front wheels according to vehicle speed, Vehicle Dynamics Integrated Management and an Adaptive Variable Suspension for models fitted with the sports package.

Safety wise, the Mark X comes with seven airbags, VSC (Vehicle Stability Control), TRC (Traction Control), Active Headrests, Pre-Crash Brake Assist system, a Pre-Crash Brake system and Pre-Crash Seatbelts. Furthermore, there is an Intelligent AFS (Adaptive Front-lighting System), Radar Cruise Control system equipped with a brake-control function and a Hill-start Assist Control function

The Mark X is available in two types. First is the Sports type (250G S package, 250G S package Relax Selection, 350S trim levels) while another is a Premium type (Premium, Premium L package). The former has tinting for the headlights and combination taillights, spoilers on front and rear bumpers and trunk lid, black-themed interior and steering-mounted paddle shifters.

The Premium type comes with special plating on the front grille, rocker moldings and its own front bumper design, steering wheel and shift knob ornamentation with wood-grain finish, heated front seats, Power Easy Access System (slides driver’s seat back and tilts steering wheel upward and forward) as well as velour-moquette seat covers that are treated with mite-suppressing agent that also prevents static electricity. The most basic Mark X costs 2,380,000 yen (about S$ 36,486) while the most expensive version goes for 3,800,000 yen (S$58,256). Continue reading to view more images.
