Ok, thanks to a friend, I just read THIS article about the Oscars setting new "Inclusion Standards" for films to be considered for the "Best Picture" Award...
1. The Oscars are trying to make a difference but who cares...if you do (no offense) I think you're silly...The Oscars have long been a bunch of bullshit...Movies (studios and producers) campaign and throw money around to try to win...just like elections...The Oscars rarely pick the true “Best picture” or best any category....
Denzel Washington won for "Training Day"...Considering his body of work, one of his least impressive roles...Russel Crowe won for "Gladiator," (pile of shit) but got know love for "A Beautiful Mind"..."Forrest Gump" won...While "Quiz Show," "The Shawshank Redemption" and "Pulp Fiction" were ALL, hands down better....The Oscars are nonsense!
2. The article referenced "The Irishman" and "1917" because onscreen, they weren’t diverse...Guess what, the Mob and the Teamsters weren’t diverse....WWI military was not diverse...That shit was reality...If all the sudden there are some Asian and Black guys in feature roles in the 1917 British military, I just walked out of your movie because it’s no longer rooted in the history you’re trying to tell me it is...
Yes, Hollywood should be more inclusive, just as the whole world should, but it shouldn’t dictate what stories can be told or altering facts...
Yes I want more female writers and directors...Yes I want to see more people of color and those in the LGBTQ communities getting more work at all levels in Hollywood... Dear lord yes, I want more diverse stories...fuck, I so sick of Marvel! But honestly, in the end I don’t feel this gesture will actually create any real change...It feels like typical Hollywood grandstanding...Trying to make themselves look good...Trying to feel better about themselves...Making sure that we all know that they're "woke"...Maybe they can sing "Imagine" again...Or do another super cringe-tastic of B-list actors lecturing us regular folk about how they won't be racist anymore and we should follow their example...
