Dhoni now 'prince charming' to media

Indian skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni wooed media like he had never before on the eve of the opening Super Eight game against the West Indies here on Friday.

Dhoni was dripping all honey and milk as media confronted him with some brutal questions but the Indian skipper disarmed them with some rare insight on his personality.

"Of course, I have changed (since winning the 2007 cup). But that is part and parcel of life. It's not easy, I am also a human being. I too have shortcomings but I am open to suggestions."

Dhoni also came out clean on Virender Sehwag, the issue surrounding the injury to his deputy and how the turn of events painted him as villain of the piece.

"We didn't want to close out the Sehwag option (of playing) and hence we carried him in the initial days. We didn't want a situation where he was back in home and suddenly was found fit enough to be part of the squad.

"Unfortunately, I couldn't discuss everything in media."

He also gave his reasons for Sehwag continuing to be in the team hotel even though he is not part of the squad.

"At the moment the services of the physio can be used (for Sehwag) to get fit. He is a friend of ours and part of the team for long. He would also feel good (if the physio attends on him even when he is not a part of the squad)."

The Indian skipper also didn't mince words about the areas where his world-beating side can still improve.

"We wouldn't be the best fielding side in the world and we have still to improve our bowling in the last 2-3 overs.

"In the four gamestwo warm up and two in the league stageour performance has been satisfying. Our fielding was bit up and down and in all honesty we wouldn't be the best fielding side of the tournament but we can be efficient in the field."

Dhoni also discounted the notion that it was cast in stone he would be batting at number three.

"It's flexible. But we want good starts and we want somebody to carry through - the rest of the guys, the flashy big hitters, to come good."

Dhoni admitted the lynchpin of West Indies team was their captain Chris Gayle though there were also in the line-up who could win a match on their own.

"You don't need to plan too much against Gayle. You should look to bowl in the right area and for him to commit a mistake. But he is a tremendous big hitter and loves to take risk.

"You could end up on the losing side if it is one of Gayle's days."

"Their side also has a few other blokes who can hit big sixes. The bowlers can get intimidated by such a line-up. Then they have bowlers who can bowl 140kmph and can mix it up with slow bouncers."
