Sunrisers Hyderabad vs Punjab Kings Match 69 Report: Abhishek Sharma’s 66 (28) Helps SRH Gun Down 215 To Compete For Second Spot

SRH vs PBKS Match Highlights And Report-IPL: On the last day of the league phase of IPL 2024, Sunrisers Hyderabad opener Abhishek Sharma continued his sensational season by hammering 66 runs off 28 balls against Punjab Kings, propelling SRH over the line in chase of the target of 215 runs.

This meant that Pat Cummins’ side was still competing for the second spot in the points table, and it would then be down to the result of the RR vs KKR match later in the day.

At the Uppal Stadium in Hyderabad, Punjab Kings posted 214 runs on the board, riding on top-scorer Prabhsimran Singh’s 71 (45). In the chase, even though SRH lost Travis Head on the first ball, Abhishek tore into the PBKS bowlers with a spectacular innings, while Rahul Tripathi, Nitish Reddy, and Heinrich Klaasen played impactful cameos in the tall chase.

Stand-in Punjab captain Jitesh Sharma won the toss and elected to bat first. Atharva Taide and Prabhsimran gave SRH a taste of their own medicine with a thunderous powerplay partnership of 61 runs in the first six overs. The duo then launched Vijayakanth Viyaskanth and Shahbaz Ahmed for 28 runs in two overs.

Natarajan gave SRH their first breakthrough with Taide’s wickets; he scored 46 (27). Part-time pacer Nitish Reddy was smoked for 20 runs by Prabhsimran and Rossouw, and even Cummins and Natarajan leaked 11 runs each. Viyaskanth finally dismissed Prabhsimran after the opener had whacked 71 (45). Rossouw continued to attack and collect boundaries but got involved in a mix-up with Shashank Singh, who got run out for two runs.

In the death overs, Cummins had Rossouw caught at long-on for 49 (24), while Natarajan dismissed the dangerous Ashutosh Sharma. Jitesh walloped two sixes and a four in the last over to Reddy, as PBKS finished at 214.

PBKS had the perfect start with the ball as Arshdeep Singh bowled Travis Head with a beautiful outswinger. However, the joy for PBKS was short-lived as Rahul Tripathi and Abhishek started smoking fours and sixes for fun.

Rishi Dhawan conceded 23 runs in two overs, and Arshdeep conceded 22 in his two overs. Harshal Patel leaked 22 runs in his first five balls but did manage to dismiss Tripathi, who scored 33 runs in 18 balls. Abhishek concluded the powerplay with a six, and SRH’s score read 84/2.

After the powerplay, Abhishek blasted two fours to Harshal and two sixes to Harpreet Brar before getting out to Shashank Singh. Abhishek’s 66 (28) had taken SRH to 129 at the 10-over mark, and from thereon, it was a steady task for SRH.

Reddy hit 3 sixes in his 37 (25), but the killer blows came from Klaasen, who clobbered 3 fours and 2 sixes in his 42 (26). SRH reached the target with 5 balls to spare.

Score summary: Punjab Kings 214/5 in 20 overs (Prabhsimran Singh 71, T Natarajan 2/33); Sunrisers Hyderabad 215/6 in 19.1 overs (Abhishek Sharma 66, Arshdeep Singh 2/37). SRH defeated PBKs by 4 wickets.
