Fishing Gear that Will Improve Your Fishing
There are some items of Fishing gear and accessories that I cannot go fishing without.
I always carry these items to the bank, and I believe that they can improve your fishing and your enjoyment of fishing.
Most are inexpensive, but they make a big difference in your angling.

Top 7 Fishing Gear & Accessories
These are my top 7 items of gear and accessories.
Knot Picker
From time to time, we all get our rigs tangled. Instead of using fingers (and especially on cold or wet days, when our fingers don’t seem to function properly), a knot picker makes the task of untangling loops and knots much easier.
I use an inexpensive knot picker with two sizes of points, which are easily slipped into loops and knots, which can then be gently teased apart.

Double-ended knot picker and rig tightener. Simple, lightweight and robust.
Drop Bucket
Before buying a drop bucket, I spent years precariously hanging over the water’s edge in order to fill containers with water (to mix groundbait, soak pellets or to pour onto fish while unhooking them).
A few years ago, I bought a drop bucket, which greatly simplified the whole process.
I initially bought it in order to fill water containers when fishing on steep river banks, but I now use it on all kinds of venues.
It is by far, one of my best Fishing Gear purchases.

Polarising Sunglasses
Polarising sunglasses are another item of fishing gear that I wouldn’t be without.
I bought my first pair of polarising sunglasses when I started fly-fishing but I now use them every time I go fishing.
Polarising sunglasses massively reduce the surface glare of the water. This enables you to spot fish and features under the surface. They also make it easier for your eyes to concentrate on floats or quiver tips, as well as protecting your eyes from flying hooks.
Fortis Wraps Polarising Sunglasses
The best selling Fortis Wraps fit perfectly around the face, totally eliminating unwanted light. Designed to block any penetrating light.
Incorporating side lenses for total 180 degree peripheral vision. Soft rubber inserts on the frame arms ensure these frames don’t slip off your head, whilst maximising comfort.
Loop Sizer
When wanting to tie neat, accurate loops, a simple loop sizer, makes the process easy.
I use this for tying many of my hooklinks.
Preston Loop Sizer
With four pre-set sizes; 8mm, 10mm, 12mm and 15mm, these help you create the perfect size every time.
A very useful accessory that improves your accuracy! It also floats if you should accidentally drop it into the water.
Pellet Wetter/Soaker
I’ve recently started using a pellet wetter/soaker and it has made the process much cleaner and easier.
The mesh bag is filled with pellets and then soaked using the bait tub.
The pellets are easily removed from the water by lifting out the enclosed bag. The remaining water can be used to mix groundbait or sprinkled back into soaked pellets to freshen them up.
The soaked pellets are securely stored in the mesh bag.
Preston Supera Pellet Wetter
Allows you to regulate the number of time pellets are soaked, creating the perfect feed pellets every time! Effective with any size of pellet.

Extra Small Curved Forceps
Perch (especially small ones) have a habit of taking in bait and becoming deeply hooked.
They can be hard to unhook with a conventional disgorger.
A small pair of curved forceps enables you to unhook small fish that are deeply hooked.
Clamp the end of the forceps onto the bend of the hook and use a gentle twisting motion (with the curve of the forceps), to unhook the fish.

Bait Droppers
Bait droppers are used to quickly get loose feed down to the bottom.
They are ideal for deep and fast-flowing swims where you want to get bait to the bottom without being washed away in the current or be eaten as loose feed falls through the water.
Bait droppers are a useful but often overlooked piece of fishing gear.
