Would You Shop At A City-owned Grocery Store?

It’s a God-given right to shop at a grocery store! That’s basically how Chicago Mayor Johnson is feeling after Walmart and Whole Foods close stores in the city.

The pressure is heating up on Mayor Johnson. Things don’t get much easier from here with a national election looming in the not-so-distant future. Leadership is a funny word in our day and age. A word that is often overused and a privilege to undertake.

The true question and reason for this article is to ask a broader question that I thank Mayor Johnson for raising, although he may not have known. We do need city-owned grocery stores. That shouldn’t be a democrat versus republican issue.

The deeper question or larger question at play for people is, would you purchase goods from a community-operated grocery store? Would you purchase at a community-operated grocery store opposed to a giant corporate wholesaler? Please answer in the poll below.

What an immaculate way to fight against theft! If someone steals from a city-owned store, then they would technically be stealing from the townspeople. Oh, the irony. Creative solutions are needed to fight crime, and Mayor Johnson of Chicago thought of one without expanding on the issue. Thank God for writers and critical thinkers such as myself.

In all seriousness and practicality, every community, not just Chicago, should have some skin in the game. This is not a new idea. This is an idea that is unapplied large-in-part. To deny business, even if the municipality controls it, is to deny one’s true potential and hinder the success of those around them.
