Sinner Maintains Lead in Olympics Race with Djokovic and Alcaraz Vying for Top Spot

Jannik Sinner remains at the top of the Olympic Race to Paris rankings with less than two months left before the cycle ends. This race will determine the Top 56 players qualifying for the Olympics based on their ranking as of June 10th, exactly one year after the cycle began. Sinner has amassed 8525 points, primarily from winning three major titles in the last eight months: two Masters (Toronto and Miami) and his first Grand Slam at the Australian Open.

Novak Djokovic follows Sinner with 7810 points but will not be adding to his total in Madrid due to his withdrawal from the event. Carlos Alcaraz, despite concerns of a forearm injury, plans to compete in his home tournament with 6380 points, placing him closest to Djokovic and Sinner in the rankings. Daniil Medvedev and Alexander Zverev, the Tokyo Olympic gold medalist, round out the top five.

With the recent lifting of the Russian player ban, Andrey Rublev will join his compatriot Medvedev in the Olympics, though only as a neutral athlete. Notable players like Hubert Hurkacz, Alex de Minaur, Grigor Dimitrov, and Stefanos Tsitsipas complete the top 10, with Casper Ruud of Norway carrying the hopes for his country after winning his first ATP 500 title in Barcelona.

The competition is tight outside the top 10, with Ben Shelton and Taylor Fritz close behind. American players Tommy Paul, Frances Tiafoe, and Sebastian Korda are vying for qualification, with Zhizhen Zhang’s Asian Games gold already securing him a spot outside the top 56. The 2024 Paris Olympics tennis tournament is set to begin on July 27th at Stade Roland Garros.
