Game Report: Caledonia Gladiators 99-83 Plymouth City Patriots

The Caledonia Gladiators were able to stay unbeaten in their new home after beating the Plymouth City Patriots in the British Basketball League.

Caledonia
Gladiators were able to keep their new home, PlaySport Arena, a fortress after
beating the Plymouth City Patriots in game week five of the British Basketball
League to the score of 99-83.

Starting Five:

Caledonia Gladiators starting five: Ian Dubose, Prince Onwas, Patrick Whelan, Lukas Palyza, Fahro Alihodzic.

Plymouth City Patriots starting five: Jacob Wiley, Mason Faulkner, Taylor Johnson, Joe Hart, TJ Atwood.

First Half:

The first
quarter started with high energy from both sides as the Patriots and the Gladiators
started off hot on offence.

Taylor Johnson started as a man-possessed, scoring 13 points on 4-of-5 shooting, with running-mate TJ Atwood also adding seven points himself.

The
Gladiators were also keeping up in the scoring department, with Clifton Moore
Jr. and Taylor Buttrick grabbing a combined seven points off the bench.

Plymouth,
however, were able to pull ahead at the end of the first quarter with the
Patriots taking a 27-24 lead.

The first
quarter seemed to have awakened the Caledonia team though.

Starting to
shut down Plymouth’s offence while scoring an insane 14 points in the paint,
the Gladiators started to take control of the game.

Ian DuBose
started to catch fire, scoring another seven points in the second quarter to go
with his prior seven in the first. With 14 points off seven shots in the first
half, the Gladiators started to terrorise the Patriots’ defence.

Going into the second half, the Gladiators swung the score to lead 51-42.

Second Half:

The second
quarter swing seemed to be the first nail in the coffin for the Patriots’ hope,
with the Gladiators going on an even bigger run to stay ahead of Plymouth.

Buttrick
and Dubose continued their fine form for the Gladiators, much to the misfortune
of Johnson and Atwood having stellar games.

The
Patriots duo had combined for 42 points by the end of the third quarter.
However, it seemed for nought with the Gladiators taking an 84-69 lead into the
fourth quarter.

As seen in
the previous two quarters, the fourth followed the same route, with the
Gladiators taking the win and continuing their unbeaten run at the PlaySport Arena.

Commiserations for Taylor Johnson and TJ Atwood, who balled out for a combined 52 points. 26 each off a combined 31 shots.

Player of the Game:

Tonight’s Player of the Game was Ian DuBose. The Gladiator scored 20 points off 7-for-11 shooting, to go with five rebounds and four assists.

Team Name Points Rebounds Assists
Caledonia Gladiators Ian DuBose 20 5 4
Caledonia Gladiators Fahro Alihodzic 16 8 4
Plymouth City Patriots TJ Atwood 26 8 3
Plymouth City Patriots Taylor Johnson 26 2 4
