Game Preview: Bristol Flyers ready for tricky visit from B. Braun Sheffield Sharks

The B. Braun Sheffield Sharks will be hoping to push up to second in the British Basketball League standings when they visit the Bristol Flyers.

Coming off an epic overtime win against the Surrey Scorchers, the Sheffield Sharks will be looking to climb up to second in the 2023/24 British Basketball League standings.

The Bristol Flyers hope to dust off their recent losing streak after going winless since the opening game week with consecutive losses to the Newcastle Eagles, London Lions, and Leicester Riders.

A win for
Bristol though will push them up the standings and hopefully give them the
confidence boost they sorely need.

The Immovable Object vs. The Immovable Object

Possessing
two of the best defences in the British Basketball League, this game will truly
be gritty and full of hustle.

While
Bristol have been the most active in the passing lanes with a league-leading
nine steals per game, the Sharks hang their hats on the defensive side with
some of the best defensive players in the league.

The Sharks unfortunately have one of the worst offences in the league, only scoring 76 points per game, good for ninth in the league. However, it is their defence that has been winning them games and seeing them teetering on the edge of contention.

This game will come down to whoever slows down who the best, and the fastest. Bristol Flyers also leads the league in fouls committed so if they continue this, they could see themselves down some key players when it comes to clutch time.

Who is the best guard?

The premier
matchup in this game is easily the battle between Jalon Pipkins and Kedrian
Johnson.

With both players leading their teams in scoring this season, expect this to become a shoot-out very quickly. Pipkins’ 18.8 points per game is good for fifth in the league and is currently nominated for Player of the Month.

Johnson has not been as hot as Pipkins in the shooting department but is still averaging a very nice 15.5 points per game with three rebounds and three assists.

However, if these two cancel each other out, a very likely scenario, watch out for Brad Greene and Kipper Nichols who are still lighting it up for their teams, albeit in different ways.

If Greene
can get going inside, this could really be a long night for Sheffield. Although
with the way Pipkins has been playing, this is anyone’s game.
