Game Report: Plymouth City Patriots 73-77 Manchester Giants

Manchester Giants were able to win on the road against the Plymouth City Patriots in game week three of the 2023/24 British Basketball League season.

The Manchester Giants were able to notch a win in a very hard-fought match against the Plymouth City Patriots, winning 77-73.

Starting Five:

Plymouth
City Patriots starting five: Jacob Wiley, Mason Faulkner, Taylor Johnson,
Elvisi Dusha, TJ Atwood

Manchester Giants starting five: Jalen Harris, Nick Stampley, Jamell Anderson, Austin Lawton, Evan Walshe

First Half:

The Patriots rushed out of the gates in this game, taking a 24-16 lead in the first Quarter. Mason Faulkner and TJ Atwood continued their great form, combining for 15 points in the first quarter alone.

Even though
they only went two for 11 from beyond the arc, their inside scoring was showing
with Faulkner and Atwood shooting on good efficiency.

Manchester
started slow, however, with the Giants looking toward their bench unit to try
and overcome the deficit against the Patriots. Mason Bourcier started to show
his skills with a quick four points in the first quarter.

The second
quarter though couldn’t have been any different. With the Giants starting to
get into their groove, Jamell Anderson and Jalen Harris started to score with
the duo combining for 16 points by the end of the second quarter.

Plymouth’s woes from the three-point line continued and started to see themselves shooting out of the game. Missing another five straight attempts from beyond the arc, the Patriots were struggling and saw themselves down 33-32 going into the third quarter.

Second Half:

Giants started
to push their lead further in the third quarter. Even though the Patriots
started to get back into the game once again, going four for seven from beyond
the arc in the third quarter, Jamell Anderson started to take over.

The British
Basketball League legend scored another six points in the third quarter to get
to 14 by the end of the third quarter. The inside game of Anderson with
numerous cutters such as Jalen Harris, Nick Stampley, and Darius McNeill put
the Giants ahead 57-52 at the end of the third quarter.

Plymouth weren’t going down with a fight. Entering the fourth quarter, Taylor Johnson started to showcase the hype and potential that followed him to the British Basketball League. Scoring nine points in the fourth quarter on three-of-four shooting, Johnson’s scoring was good, but not good enough to catch the Giants.

Manchester were able to run away with it and hold onto the win, beating the Patriots 77-73.

Tonight’s MVP:

Tonight’s MVP was Jamell Anderson with 19 points and eight rebounds on 13 shots.

Team Name Points Rebounds Assists
Manchester Giants Jamell Anderson 19 8 1
Manchester Giants Nick Stampley 9 11 1
Plymouth City Patriots Taylor Johnson 18 6 6
Plymouth City Patriots Mason Faulkner 20 4 4
