Bulldogs Coach Smart Gets PAID With Contract Extension

Georgia Bulldogs head coach Kirby Smart will continue to lead the Dawgs for a few more years.

And UGA is paying him handsomely for his services.

Smart agreed to a Contract extension today that gives him an annual salary of $13 million, which includes a bump in salary of $1.75 million annually. This makes Smart the highest-paid coach in college football. Until today, Dabo Sweeney, head coach for the Clemson Tigers, was the most-paid college football coach at $11 million.

Smart could also get yearly bonuses totaling $1.55 million per year based on the new 12-team playoff structure.

He will remain head coach of the Bulldogs through 2033 under the extended contract.

“I continue to be grateful and humbled by our administration’s commitment to our football program,” said Smart in a statement.”The current culture in collegiate athletics is everchanging and as challenging as it has ever been, so I truly appreciate the leadership that our team is continually providing.”

“He [Smart] has excited the Bulldog nation about what is yet to come after winning two national championships,” said UGA President Jere W. Morehead, in a statement.

Smart isn’t the only one in the Bulldog’s front office getting a hefty raise. UGA’s athletic director Josh Brooks was given a one-year extension in his contract that boosts his salary to $1.275 million. He could also get $200,000 in bonuses depending on the athletic program’s performance.
