Jadon Sancho Willing to Take Pay Cut to Secure Borussia Dortmund Return:
Jadon Sancho is likely to leave Manchester United on loan in January after falling out of favor under manager Erik ten Hag this season.
The England international had a public falling out with Ten Hag following United’s defeat to Arsenal (3-1) earlier this season. Sancho took to social media to express his frustration after being omitted from the matchday squad, causing him to remain on the sidelines ever since. This exclusion has now stretched to over 2 months, with Sancho yet to make a matchday squad under Ten Hag since the incident.
According to reports, Ten Hag wanted Sancho to apologise for his social media post to mend their relationship, but the player has been unwilling to do so. Their relationship is now seen as “essentially beyond repair” at this point after the lengthy exclusion from the first team squad.
United are open to loaning out Sancho in January, with clubs in Germany, Italy and Spain showing interest. Sancho’s preference is a return to Borussia Dortmund, where he played before joining United in 2021. However, United’s high £73 million transfer fee and Sancho’s £350,000 per week wages make a permanent Dortmund move difficult.
Juventus are also interested in Sancho but, like Dortmund, cannot afford a permanent transfer. Both clubs would prefer a loan with an option to buy rather than an obligation. United hope an 18-month loan could increase Sancho’s value and lead to a permanent sale.
There has been interest from clubs in Saudi Arabia, but Sancho is not keen on a move there and wants to remain in a top European league, according to reports in England. His representatives will help decide which team he plays for next.
Sancho has struggled for form and fitness at United since his big-money switch from Dortmund, failing to match expectations. In 52 appearances for United, he has scored just 8 goals. But at only 23, a loan move could provide a platform to revitalize his career after a difficult spell at Old Trafford.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano claims that Manchester United are aiming to recover around €60-70 million from Jadon Sancho through a permanent transfer or loan obligations. But his lack of playing time this season has dropped his value.
Sancho made a sensational debut as a teenager at Dortmund after departing Manchester City’s youth academy. He scored 50 goals in 137 appearances for BVB, earning a call-up to the England national team in 2019 aged just 19.
United had pursued Sancho for over a year before finally signing him for £73m in 2021. But the move has not worked out, and a temporary move away seems the only solution after his falling out with Ten Hag.
Both Sancho and Manchester United are hopeful that the upcoming January transfer window will present a fresh start for the player to rediscover his best form. Dortmund remains his preferred destination given his history there, but a return to the Bundesliga side where he made his name may be easier said than done.
