Jenni Hermoso Said She Received Threats After Non-Consensual Kiss by Luis Rubiales

Jenni Hermoso Recently Said She Received Threats After World Cup Most Controversial Kiss By Luis Rubiales:

Spain forward Jenni Hermoso recently revealed that she received threats after being non-consensually kissed by former Spanish Football Federation president Luis Rubiales. The incident occurred after Spain won the 2022 Women’s World Cup final in August.

In Hermoso’s first interview since the August 20 incident, she told GQ Spain magazine that the past few weeks had been “very difficult.” Rubiales kissed Hermoso without consent following Spain’s 1-0 victory over England in the final in Australia and New Zealand. The unsolicited kiss caused outrage in Spanish and global football. The Spanish government, FIFA, United Nations and several players and clubs condemned Rubiales’ unacceptable behavior.

Jenni Hermoso said she unfairly had to face consequences for an act she didn’t provoke or premeditate. She also revealed receiving threats, which she said you never get used to.

Because of the backlash, Rubiales eventually resigned as president of the Royal Spanish Football Federation. In September, he was given a restraining order after being accused of sexual assault for the non-consensual kiss. Hermoso and other Spain players have testified as witnesses in the investigation. Hermoso gave videotaped testimony to a Spanish state prosecutor in September, but it was leaked to the media. Having to repeatedly recount the story was very hurtful to Hermoso. FIFA also banned Rubiales from all football-related activities for three years.

The actions led to the “#SeAcabo” movement, meaning “It’s Over” in Spanish. Fans and players rallied behind Hermoso and demanded changes. Hermoso said the movement must usher in a new era. She plans to use this story positively to fight for societal good.

After taking some time away mentally from football, Jenni Hermoso recently returned to the Spanish national team when she was included in Spain’s Nations League squad. She scored an 89th minute goal against Italy in their 1-0 victory. Hermoso said that despite reaching the pinnacle of football, she knows there is much more to life. However, she is not giving up and wants to showcase her best version again.
