Milwaukee Bucks Fans React To Bobby Portis Failing To Win Sixth Man of the Year Award

Milwaukee Bucks big man Bobby Portis fell short in the Sixth Man of the Year race, finishing behind Malik Monk and eventual winner Naz Reid in the voting.

With that being said, some fans couldn’t help but feel Portis was robbed, especially considering the numbers of the Bucks forward and Reid.

Portis ended up third in the Sixth Man of the Year race voting, tallying 81 points behind five first-place votes. Reid and Monk were close, with the former getting 43 first-place votes en route to 342 total points and the latter earning 45 first-place votes for a total of 352 points.

Monk was the heavy favorite to win the award, but Reid’s strong play at the latter part of the season appeared to have swung a lot of voters in his favor.

Many Bucks fans, however, can’t believe that Reid finished ahead of Portis. After all, BP actually had the better numbers. While Reid’s defensive impact on the Timberwolves cannot be understated, the fact remains that Portis was as good as a Sixth Man can get.

Portis played in 82 games in the 2023-24 regular season and started in just four games. He recorded averages of 13.8 points, 7.4 rebounds, 1.3 assists and 0.8 steal on 51/41/79 shooting splits. Reid didn’t beat him in any of those areas, as he tallied averages of 13.5 points, 5.2 rebounds, 1.3 assists, 0.8 steal on 48/41/74 shooting splits.

It would have probably been more acceptable had Monk won the award considering the season he had. However, for Reid to actually beat them both definitely came as a massive surprise.

After the announcement, several Milwaukee Bucks supporters took to social media to show their support for Bobby Portis and to call out what they deem as a massive robbery.

“He got robbed,” a fan commented on the Bucks’ appreciation post for Portis following the Sixth Man of the Year awarding.

Another supporter shared, “Robbed but cool, we are going for another ring.” A third fan added, “[Bobby Portis] you’re my 6th man of the year if that helps.”

“Same minutes, same points, same assists, less games started, and 2 more boards than as Naz, but not 6MOY,” a commenter furthered.

Others urged Portis to use the snub as motivation to help the Bucks in the playoffs. They are currently tied with the Pacers at 1-1 in the postseason series.

While Portis did not win the award despite his late campaigning, no one can take away the fact that he has been great for the Bucks.
