The Milwaukee Brewers took a flier on Jon Singleton in 2022 as he signed a minor league deal with the team after spending five years away from affiliated baseball. He had an exceptional season in Triple-A that consisted of 117 walks and 24 home runs, but did not get called up to the big leagues.
A season later, after initially being added to the 40-man roster in the offseason and then subsequently being designated for assignment in order to make room for free agent signing Brian Anderson, he elected to come back to the Brewers organization. He again put up good minor league numbers and eventually got a cup of coffee in the big leagues with Milwaukee.
Milwaukee didn’t give him a ton of opportunities, so upon being designated for assignment again he signed with another familiar organization of his in the Houston Astros. He now is on their postseason roster and delivered a walk during a clutch ninth inning pinch hit at-bat.

Former Milwaukee Brewers player Jon Singleton delivered a clutch postseason at-bat for the Houston Astros and his wife spoke out afterwards.
Entering the ninth inning of game five of the ALCS on Friday night the Houston Astros trailed by a score of two runs to four. Jon Singleton was called upon to pinch hit for former Brewer Martin Maldonado. He took the first three pitches in which all of them were balls. Rangers closer Jose Leclerc then delivered two strikes before issuing ball four on a changeup that just barely missed the bottom of the strike zone.
After Jon Singleton’s walk Jose Altuve came through with a three run home run to give the Astros the lead. They would secure the victory in the bottom of the ninth inning and took a three games to two lead in the series. Without Jon Singleton’s patience and discipline at the plate that inning would have drastically changed.
After the game the wife of Jon Singleton, Linzy Singleton, expressed how frustrating the 2022 season was with the Brewers and not getting called up. She then re-iterated that all that hard work was for that post-season moment and that she was proud of her husband for coming through with a clutch pinch hit at-bat in the postseason.
Not getting called up last season by the brewers after having 117 walks in AAA was rough. All of those 117 were meant for this moment. #Postseason
