Green Bay Packers rival Quarterback Justin Fields of the Chicago Bears is expected to miss time with a thumb injury, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
Bears’ QB Justin Fields’ dislocated thumb is expected to keep him out, in the words of a source, for “however long it takes for swelling and stiffness to reside and strength to come back so he can grip a ball.”

Justin Fields suffered the injury in the 19-13 loss at home this past Sunday in Week 6 against the Minnesota Vikings. The Bears will next face the 3-3 Las Vegas Raiders this Sunday at home, and Chicago is 1-5 on the year. With Fields being sidelined, undrafted rookie quarterback Tyson Bagent is expected to start in the meantime for the Chicago Bears.
Bagent was 10-of-14 for 83 yards and one interception. He rushed for four yards on two carries and a score. Tyson Bagent will be making his first NFL career start on Sunday out of division two Shepherd University.
Fields was 6-of-10 for 58 yards and one interception. He also rushed for 46 yards on eight carries and zero touchdowns.
The Green Bay Packers rival quarterback so far this season has completed 61.7% of his passes for 1,201 yards, 11 touchdowns, and six interceptions. He has also rushed for 237 yards on 47 carries and one touchdown. Fields has averaged 5.0 yards per carry.
He is 24 years old and is possibly running out of time as the quarterback of the Bears. If the season ended today, they would own the first two picks in the 2024 NFL Draft, and one of those picks would most likely be a quarterback. This is why the Justin Fields injury is not ideal for him.
Green Bay Packers Rival Quarterback Justin Fields Should Face the Packers in Week 18 This Season But Who Knows
The Packers don’t face the Chicago Bears again until Week 18 of the NFL regular season. Fields should be available by then, but who knows what the Bears are going to do. This should not be a season-ending injury, but Chicago could very well be in tank mode. They may continue evaluating Tyson Bagent at that time, but there may not be much to see.
Justin Fields wants to be back on the field by then because some team will take him in 2024. Fields did not play great in Week 1 of this season against the Green Bay Packers. He has yet to win a game against them in his NFL career. The Week 18 matchup may not mean anything for both teams by then because they both can very well be eliminated from playoff contention.
