Green Bay Packers: Derrick Henry a Potential Trade Target

The Green Bay Packers will be looking to make moves before the October 31 NFL Trade Deadline and Tennessee Titans running back Derrick Henry could be one of the names that they potentially go after. Eric Smithling of Yardbarker mentioned this in an article last week. He said about the possibility of the Tennessee Titans trading away Derrick Henry to the Green Bay Packers:

“After losing to the Colts in Week 5, 23-16, thus squandering an opportunity to assert itself in the AFC South, Tennessee (2-3) must set its sight on the future. That would mean trading Henry. The star running back could be vaulable in the right situation, which is clearly not the Titans. He’s averaging a career-low 3.8 yards per carry, and trading him would open room for talented rookie Tyjae Spears to take on the lead role, which he’s earned.”

The current situation for the Packers backfield is that Aaron Jones is dealing with hamstring injuries this season, and they hope he can return in Week 7 against the Denver Broncos. Even if he does return, there are no guarantees that he will be healthy throughout the game.

AJ Dillon has not played well either and will be a pending free agent at the end of the season. Green Bay doesn’t plan on re-signing him.

A lot can happen within the next two weeks. The Tennessee Titans are 2-4 on the season after losing to the Baltimore Ravens 23-16 in Week 6. Tennessee will be on a bye in Week 7, and then they will face the Atlanta Falcons in Week 8 before the NFL trade deadline.

It could very well be the last game that Henry plays in a Titans uniform as they prepare for a potential rebuild. The Packers will need certainty in the backfield sooner rather than later. Having Henry in this offense can change a lot of things. Green Bay was targeting Indianapolis Colts running back Jonathan Taylor beforehand, but he is off the market now. General manager Brian Gutekunst will need to make a move.

Derrick Henry this season has rushed for 425 yards on 98 carries and three touchdowns. He is averaging 4.3 yards per carry. Henry has also caught 11 passes for 117 yards and zero touchdowns. He is averaging 10.6 yards per reception. One of the reasons why the Titans can move off of him is because rookie running back Tyjae Spears getting more snaps. He is from Tulane University and is ready to take off.

Spears has rushed for 171 yards on 31 carries and one touchdown. He is averaging 5.5 yards per carry. Tyjae Spears has also caught 15 passes for 111 yards receiving and zero touchdowns. He is averaging 7.4 yards per reception.

The Green Bay Packers will face the Denver Broncos (1-5) and the Minnesota Vikings (2-4) the next two weeks. If Green Bay wins those games, and they should, they 100 percent need to make a trade for Derrick Henry to shake things up in the NFC. This would help out head coach Matt LaFleur, quarterback Jordan Love, and the offense in a big way, even though the offensive line is struggling at the moment.
