Green Bay Packers: Aaron Rodgers’ Timeline For Return Gets Much Earlier Than Expected Update (Report)

The Green Bay Packers and Aaron Rodgers (mostly amicably) decided to go their separate ways this off-season. After many believed that both sides were “done” with the situation, the Packers traded the four-time MVP quarterback to the New York Jets.

Just four offensive plays into their very first game of the season their worst nightmare came true as Rodgers went down with a completely torn Achilles Tendon.  Many presumed that Rodgers would be out the rest of the year, however, he has made it clear that won’t be the case.  Now an actual projected timeline for his return has been announced.

Jessica Kleinschmidt highlighted the major update regarding Rodgers:

Aaron Rodgers is making amazing progress since going down with an Achilles injury at the beginning of the season.

Jets head coach Robert Saleh said the veteran quarterback was “on a mission” to return to the team this season and an injury expert not only agrees, but offered up a possible timeline.

CBS Sports HQ’s Marty Jaramillo believes Rodgers is “absolutely” on pace to return by Week 15 — approximately 12-14 weeks after he underwent surgery.

“He’s moving almost three times as fast as traditional protocols,” Jaramillo told CBSSports.com Monday. “No boot, no crutches, minimal limp. It’s quite exponential. There is no precedent for this type of recovery following an Achilles tear. He is beating back Father Time.”

Rodgers was present at the Jets’ facility on Saturday and was on the field on Sunday ahead of the team’s 20-14 win over the Philadelphia Eagles. Prior to the game, Rodgers was throwing on the field.

He was in the stationary position, but was able to be seen putting weight on the foot in which the surgery took place.

“Aaron was in our facility on Saturday. I was talking to him,” Saleh said. “I was like, ‘So what’s the deal? You gonna go up to the box tomorrow? Watch from the box? He goes, ‘No, I want to be ont he field.’ I was like, ‘What about your ankle?’ He goes, ‘I’m fine.’ I was like, ‘K, whatever you want, buddy.’ He is on a mission. I don’t put anything past him. I’ve heard he’s absolutely dominating rehab and he really wants to get back this year. That’s why getting wins like this and staying it and staying in the hunt, giving him that opportunity to fulfill his mission, is so vital.”

Rodgers also said he believes he’s making stellar progress, especially compared to those who have underwent the injury and surgery before.

What Does This Mean Going Forward?

Obviously, the 65% of snaps Aaron Rodgers would have to play to notch the Packers a first-round draft pick next year won’t be reached if he returns in Week 15.  He would need to return to the field in the next 1-3 weeks for that to even be possible.

However, this does mean that the Jets have a real chance to get Rodgers back before the playoffs.  This gives Robert Saleh and his team all the motivation in the world to keep the foot on the gas all season long.  Currently the Jets are 3-3 and sit at third place in their division behind the Miami Dolphins and Buffalo Bills.

With the Dolphins (and Bills to be honest) both vying for a possible Super Bowl appearance, the Jets would likely have to play for a wild card spot.  This means finishing the season with a 9-8 or 10-7 record at minimum to qualify (those records qualified teams for the wild card spot in the AFC last season).

This would put the Packers’ second-round draft pick (from the Jets) in the bottom half of that second round.
