The Chicago Bears and Green Bay Packers have each had an interesting start to the 2023 season. The Packers are 2-2 and have seen moments of brilliance from quarterback Jordan Love. At the same time, the offense has struggled mightily at times.
The Bears went into the season with high expectations for this team. They traded away the number one overall draft pick to go get star wide receiver D.J. Moore. That move showed the NFL that the franchise is behind Justin Fields. However, after an 0-4 start to the 2023 season, that excitement has quickly subsided. Ahead of Week Five, the Bears decided to make a change to their quarterback room.
Green Bay Packers’ Rival Chicago Bears Release Quarterback Nathan Peterman
For the Week 5 matchup against the Commanders, Chicago will activate Teven Jenkins, according to NFL Media’s Mike Garafolo.
A calf injury kept Jenkins out of the first four weeks of the season, but he returned from injured reserve earlier this week. On Chicago’s three injury reports this week, he was listed as a full participant and questionable. It appears that he will play now that he has been activated.
In a corresponding move, NFL Media’s Tom Pelissero reports the Bears have released Quarterback Nathan Peterman, resulting in undrafted rookie Tyson Bagent being the team’s backup quarterback without an emergency quarterback on the 53-man roster.
Peterman was released by the Bears before this season, and he was then brought back to the team, so he may return in the future.
