Milwaukee Brewers Announce Saturday’s Starting Pitcher Against The Chicago Cubs (report)

The Milwaukee Brewers had a dramatic victory against the Chicago Cubs on Friday night in which Carlos Santana hit a walk-off and Caleby Boushely shined in his MLB debut.  This loss pushed the Cubs elimination number down to one.  In order to potentially finish Chicago’s season Milwaukee has announced that one starting pitcher will return after a long absence away from the big leagues.

Eric Lauer will be the Milwaukee Brewers starting pitcher on Saturday against the Chicago Cubs (report).

Over the past few seasons Eric Lauer has been a staple in their starting rotation.  This year things did not go his way, he was on the injured list a few different times early on, and eventually he was optioned to Triple-A.  After his demotion he ended up taking over a month off, but returned to the organization in late July.

Since returning Eric Lauer has been slowly building up his arm again.  His last outing with the Sounds came on September 22 in which he threw seven innings and struck out 10 batters.  He won’t factor into the Brewers post season plans this year, but to have the opportunity to start in the big leagues one more time in a playoff altering scenario has to have him excited.

Curt Hogg of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel broke the news that Eric Lauer would be starting Saturday’s game against the Cubs.  He also indicated that no matter the score the Brewers high leverage relievers should get tune up outings so that they are ready for Tuesday’s Wild Card Series.

It would be incredible to see Eric Lauer finish the year off on a high note while also helping knock the Cubs out of playoff contention.  The first pitch for tonight is scheduled for 6:10 PM CT.  Expect an official roster move from Milwaukee later today.

Eric Lauer is set to be the Milwaukee Brewers’ starting pitcher against the Chicago Cubs. After a hiatus from the big leagues, Lauer’s return is eagerly anticipated. For more updates on the Brewers and other related news, check out our Milwaukee Brewers News section.
