WATCH: Raptors’ Dennis Schroder Appears to Threaten Own Coach at FIBA World Cup

Sunday’s FIBA World Cup matchup between Dennis Schroder’s Germany and Slovenia turned out to be a blowout in favor of the Germans. There was no shortage of action, though, which included a heated moment between Schroder, who signed with the Toronto Raptors this summer, and his own head coach.

Dennis Schroder Has Heated Altercation With Germany Coach

At one point in the game, Schroder was seen having a rather animated conversation with one of his teammates. This was during a timeout and Germany head coach Gordon Herbert demanded that Schroder sit down to join in on the huddle. Herbert decided to grab Schroder to catch the veteran’s attention, and it was at this point that the 6-foot-3 combo guard made it abundantly clear that he did not appreciate his coach’s gesture:

Schroder wasn’t at all pleased by how his coach screamed at him and shoved him to the bench. The Raptors guard immediately confronted his coach by telling him to his face that he should “chill out.” He then proceeded to warn his coach not to touch him like that.

Coach Herbert seemed to have realized his mistake. He acknowledged Schroder’s message and responded by saying that he just wanted the 29-year-old to sit down.

Germans Take Down Luka Doncic, Slovenia

Thankfully, cooler heads prevailed and the incident did not escalate further. In the end, the Germans still got the job done, taking down Luka Doncic and Co., 100-71. Schroder led the way for his team with a game-high 24 points on 8-of-11 shooting, two rebounds, 10 assists, and a block. He also went 4-of-7 from distance to cap off another dominant performance.

Luka Doncic did all he could, but the Slovenians just proved no match to their opponents on the evening. The Dallas Mavericks superstar logged 23 points on 9-of-22 from the field, to go along with six boards, six assists, and two steals in 30 minutes of play.

Both teams have booked their place in the FIBA World Cup quarter-finals. Germany has set a date with Latvia, while Slovenia will take on Canada. Both games are scheduled for Wednesday.
