Pittsburgh Steelers Poach Former Green Bay Packers Safety (Breaking)

The Green Bay Packers and Pittsburgh Steelers have certainly had a substantial amount of personnel turnover in one off-season.  For Green Bay, this off-season was of course headlined by the franchise-altering Aaron Rodgers trade.  Additionally, the Packers moved on from a number of key veterans.  However, there was one younger player the Packers moved on from who already has found a new home with the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Former Green Bay Packers Safety Tariq Carpenter Signs With The Pittsburgh Steelers’ Practice Squad (Breaking)

As the Pittsburgh Steelers continue to fill out their 16-man practice squad, the team decided to bring on former Packers safety/linebacker Tariq Carpenter.

Having been a safety at Georgia Tech for a significant amount of time, Carpenter switched to someone of a hybrid linebacker in the NFL. With a height of 6 feet 3 inches and a weight of 229 pounds, he reminds Steelers fans of former safety/linebacker Marcus Allen.

Tariq Carpenter was originally drafted by the Packers in the seventh round of the 2022 NFL Draft. In spite of the fact that he made the 53-man roster last season, he did not get much playing time on the field. Over the course of his 14 games last season, Carpenter played a total of 16 defensive snaps as well as 122 special team snaps. Even though he saw a lot of special teams snaps, they totaled only 34% team’s special team plays.

In other words, Carpenter was not used very often on special teams either.

It was announced this past offseason that Carpenter was making a switch from safety to linebacker. When Green Bay announced their 53-man roster this wekk, Carpenter made it as a linebacker along with De’Vondre Campbell, Quay Walker, Eric Wilson, and Isaiah McDuffie.  However, after being released, the Steelers made a move for him.
