BREAKING: Indianapolis Colts Sign 2 RBs To PS After Green Bay Packers, Jonathan Taylor Trade Report

The Indianapolis Colts made an interesting move Wednesday after reports came out the front office had been in serious conversations with the Green Bay Packers regarding a potential trade for star running back Jonathan Taylor.

Per WSH Media, the Packers attempted to make their backfield the best in the NFL via a trade for Taylor before Tuesday’s 53-man roster deadline. The Colts were looking to shop Taylor before the deadline at the running back’s request, but the team decided to place Taylor on the PUP list to start the season.

That doesn’t mean the Colts and Packers won’t be trade partners regarding Taylor this season. Stephen Holder with ESPN reported there is still interest in Taylor, and the Colts have until the trade deadline in October to make a trade. However, because the Colts placed Taylor on the PUP list, he is ineligible to play the first four games of the season, regardless of if a trade happens between now and Week 4.

The Indianapolis Colts signed two RBs on Wednesday

There’s good reason to think a trade might be coming. According to Tom Pelissero with the NFL Network, the Colts signed two running backs to the practice squad Wednesday. Jake Funk and Jason Huntly will head to Indianapolis while the Colts decide their next move with Taylor.

The Green Bay Packers should continue to go after Jonathan Taylor

We’ll see if the Packers continue their aggressive approach regarding a trade for Taylor. Because Taylor cannot play four games, the Packers would give up less capital to the Colts in return for what should be a healthy–if rusty–Taylor.

The Packers also may as well try and complete the deal and keep Taylor long-term if that’s what their front office thought the best strategy was when they went after Taylor. The cat is out of the bag, and Aaron Jones and AJ Dillon know after Wednesday’s report that one or both of their jobs are likely over in Green Bay in the short term.
