If we’re going to talk about who the hottest team in baseball is right now, some could argue it’s the Milwaukee Brewers. The Brewers are cruising right along as we near Craigtember, winning their last eight straight and sweeping the last three series they’ve played.
Milwaukee swept the San Diego Padres in a three-game series, capping off the trio with a 10-6 win Sunday at American Family Field. It wasn’t until the sixth inning where things really started to kick off, as they were trying to overcome a 4-1 deficit and starting pitcher Adrian Houser departing the game early due to injury.
Adrian Houser Injury Update
Adrian Houser left the game after two innings of work due to injury. The Brewers said it was minor right forearm discomfort. Before his departure, the right-hander allowed four runs and two homers.
Houser told the media after the game that his right elbow started to bother him in the second inning, and thought he could shake it off, but every pitch after that, he could feel the pain.
This had nothing to do with the tumble he took off the mound today, however. Houser also said that it’s not the first time he’s taken a tumble, it’s a frequent occurrence for him.
“You guys don’t see my bullpens,” said Houser. “I probably do it once every other bullpen…I’m a natural at rolling down the mound. It’s part of my game.”

Nothing has been said about whether or not this requires a trip to the IL,, but Houser did mention he probably just needs some rest to shake it off and be ready for his next start.
Sixth Inning Rally
While the clutch home run came from Contreras in the first inning, the offense exploded in the sixth inning to make sure they were ending the weekend with a win.
Mark Canha singled to left, starting off the base running. The Brewers then loaded the bases with walks from Brice Turang and Andruw Monasterio. Rowdy Tellez, who hadn’t played in Saturday’s contest, came off the bench and delivered a two-run RBI double to tie up the game at 4. The Padres then decided to intentionally walk Christian Yelich to get to Contreras, which was probably not smart thinking on their end.
Carlos Santana drew another walk for the Brewers, marking the fourth of the inning, and eighth of the day to bring in a run. Nick Martinez then entered for San Diego and allowed a two-run double to Sal Frelick, and another two-run RBI single to Mark Canha before the inning was finally over.
Player of the Game: William Contreras
William Contreras has been on a tear. Since being acquired by the team, he has definitely been worth the trade. Contreras went into Sunday’s contest on a six-game hitting streak, hitting eight for his last 22 with three doubles and a home run in that span. In the first inning, he hit a season best 450-foot homer to the Miller Lite Deck against Padres’ starting pitcher Wacha. Contreras drew a walk, grounded out, and popped out before delivering an RBI double.
What’s Next for the Milwaukee Brewers?
The Brewers are heading down south on I-94 to take on the Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field for a three game series. The Cubs currently sit four games behind the Brewers in the NL Central and continue to be a hot team chasing their way to a postseason berth. The Cubs scored 10 runs in back-to-back victories against the fourth place Pittsburgh Pirates, and have won their last seven of nine games.
The chase for the NL Central is on; Milwaukee still has six games left against Chicago this season before we find out who’s going to take it all. It’s at the point in the season where every little thing matters, and if the Brewers want to make it to the postseason again and take back the title of NL Central Champions, they need to continue to stay hot. This series is going to be lots of fun, and maybe a little stressful.
