NFL: New Team Surfaces For Former Green Bay Packers Kicker Mason Crosby

NFL: The Green Bay Packers made the tough decision this off-season to move on from the franchise’s all-time leading scorer in Mason Crosby.  The 38-year-old kicker has been the starting kicker for the Packers since 2007.  After finishing the 2022 season making over 86% of his kicks (25-29), he isn’t ready to hang up his cleats.  The veteran kicker has made it known he wants to continue playing, even if it’s not in Green Bay.

A list of other veterans included also Adrian Amos, Robert Tonyan, Randall Cobb among other key vets. But at least finally for Crosby, it seems like a place for him is in sight. He was the only veteran Packer to have not yet found a new home.

But ‘where to?’ has been the question amongst his fans and Packers fans in particular along with a few choruses of “Baby, please don’t go…”

With the mediocre performance in a recent preseason game from Browns kicker Cade York in the rearview mirror, head coach of the Browns, Kevin Stefanski, may be looking for a change sooner rather than later.

“While toeing the company line is all well and good when the games don’t count, Browns fans can expect Stefanski’s tune to change quickly if York’s issues continue and end up costing Cleveland wins during a regular season in which the head coach must deliver if he hopes to keep his own job secure,” wrote Max Dibble of Heavy.

It does seem like a wee bit of conjecture right now that he is for sure going to replace the poorly performing York, but it is a possibility and that possibility got a lot of people talking about a veteran Packer kicking for the Browns.

Would Mason Crosby Fit In On The Cleveland Browns?

Crosby has kicked twice (2009 and 2017) for the Packers at Cleveland Browns Stadium. Crosby is 1/2 on field goals there and 7/7 on extra points.

The Browns could use Crosby’s leg for needed points this season. The AFC North will be a competitive division, and much is expected from the Browns with quarterback Deshaun Watson under center for the entire season in 2023.

Crosby has spent his entire career playing for the Packers in Green Bay.  The mid-west weather of Cleveland wouldn’t faze the veteran kicker in the slightest.  It would make a lot of sense for both sides to get a deal done if the Browns continue to have kicking troubles early on this season.
