The Green Bay Packers made the uncomfortable, yet necessary, decision to trade Aaron Rodgers. Even last year, it was evident that both the Packers and Rodgers needed to move on from each other for a wide variety of reasons. Of course, the trade meant that Jordan Love, whom Green Bay traded up to select in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft, would be the new starting quarterback.
Ever since Love arrived in Green Bay as a rookie, he has been fighting an uphill battle against both fans and the media. It is unfortunate because he never asked the Packers to do what they did in trading up for him, yet he has been met with criticism at every turn.
That being said, he has taken all the nasty remarks with grace and has never uttered a harsh word about angry fans, the media, the organization, or Rodgers. Still, yet one more national media member has used their platform to drag Love despite the fact that he has yet to throw even 100 passes in the NFL.
NFL Analyst Claims the Green Bay Packers Season Will Be a Disaster with Jordan Love
Jordan Love and the Packers have not been given very good odds to be successful in 2023. From a betting perspective, they are a huge risk. That is the angle that Tanner McGrath of The New York Post took when he wrote:
“The Packers likely won’t finish at the bottom of the barrel in the NFC.
“There are things to like about this squad.
“The offensive line should be good and the defense features a young core that likely improves in the coming seasons.
“However, Love is a huge question mark at quarterback. While he’ll be well-protected, I’m unsure if he’ll have the skill-position weapons to perform immediately in his first year as an NFL starter.”
McGrath goes on to argue that Green Bay’s lack of experienced pass catchers could be a source of struggles in the 2023 season. Furthermore, he points out that, in 2022, the Packers had the sixth-best injury luck of any team in the NFL. He argues that if that luck were to flip, their depth may not hold up.
These are valid arguments, but aside from the question mark surround Love, have little to do with Love’s actual play. While the pass catchers are inexperienced, if they and Love can be average, they can have a successful season, especially if the defense improves as McGrath suggests.
From a betting standpoint, there is little-to-no guarantees that the Packers will be successful. However, there are also few things that emphatically indicate they will be bad. That is why gambling is just that: a gamble. Green Bay could have a poor 2023 season, but they could also have a highly successful one.
In the lowly NFC North, just about anything can happen.
