The Green Bay Packers President and CEO, Mark Murphy, has been named as a defendant in the hazing lawsuit against Northwestern University. Two former players, who filed under “John Doe,” have named Mark Murphy as a defendant.

Mark Murphy has served as the Green Bay Packers President and CEO since December 2007. However, before his current role, he was the athletic director at Northwestern University from 2003-2007. Being listed as a defendant mean that Mark Murphy is one of the individuals being accused or sued. Both lawsuits outline instances of hazing and sexual abuse.
On Thursday the Green Bay Packers denied any comment. Murphy is not the only former member of the program that is listed in the new lawsuits. Former head coach Pat Fitzgerald and former university president Henry Bienen are also listed as defendants.
What happened at Northwestern?
The news surrounding Northwestern University is one of the biggest scandals in recent sports history. The news led to the university firing head coach Pat Fitzgerald after 17 years in the position. Both lawsuits, which list Murphy as a defendant, allege that Fitzgerald knew about the hazing happening within the program. They also state that he also encouraged the behavior.
A total of thirteen former players have filed lawsuits against the university since Pat Fitzgerald was fired. Official hearings will take place later, but for now, Mark Murphy finds himself tangled up in one of the biggest college sports scandals of the last decade.
