MLB News: Brewers Star Christian Yelich Gets Brutally Honest on Getting Swept by Braves

MLB news: The Milwaukee Brewers’ tough 8-6 loss against the Atlanta Braves on Sunday marked their third defeat in three games against Atlanta. Despite the fact that the Brewers had the lead multiple times in the game, the Braves still found a way to battle back to close out a 3-0 series sweep on a hapless Milwaukee side.

Christian Yelich, who himself put in a noteworthy effort in Sunday’s disheartening loss, is keeping his head up. The former MVP knows that the Brewers did all they could to battle the Braves, who on this occasion, just proved to be too much for Milwaukee.

Yelich scored a home run on Sunday while also logging two runs scored and two RBIs. It wasn’t enough to lift the Brewers, though, as the Braves came away with a clean sweep.

Be that as it may, Yelich has chosen to see the silver lining in all this:

“If we can keep doing that — we’re not going to score six or seven every game, but if you can find ways to tack on runs, I think for the rest of the year we’ll be alright in the long run,” Yelich said. “Just a tough three days.”

Yelich is also hoping to battle the Braves again this year. This won’t be in the regular season, though, which means that a matchup between Milwaukee and Atlanta will need to be in the playoffs:

“That’s the goal. You want to earn the right to play these guys again,” Yelich said. “They’re most likely a playoff team, almost guaranteed to be a playoff team. If we run into them again, if we earn the right to make the playoffs, anything can happen in a playoff series.

“I think if we end up playing [the Braves] again, it means our season has gone pretty good.”

The Brewers may be down right now, but they’re certainly not out. There’s still so much to play for this season, and they will just need to dust themselves off quickly after this disappointing series sweep.

MLB News: Greg Counsell Concedes Braves Were Superior Team

Even Brewers manager Craig Counsell knows that his team put in a commendable effort against the Braves. The 52-year-old could not help but praise Atlanta for their effort, particularly with the way they hit the ball in the series:

“Look, they swung the bats as well as you can swing it — as well as I’ve seen in a three-game series,” Counsell said. “We did a decent job scoring runs this series, for sure. They just have a lot of hitters locked in. Which hitter you choose to go after, it’s tough because it’s up and down the lineup.”

The Milwaukee Brewers are back in action on Monday to kick off their series against the Washington Nationals. It goes without saying that Yelich, Counsell, and the rest of the team will want to bounce back as soon as they can.
