About Midlands Regional Center

Midlands Regional Center is a residential facility of the South Carolina Department of Disabilities and Special Needs located in Columbia, SC serving residents with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

Job Responsibilities

Under limited supervision of the Health Support Director, plans, implements, directs and evaluates nutrition/dietary services.

Determines nutritional needs of residents by utilizing assessments and medical record updates. Informs physicians and healthcare providers of any nutritional inadequacies, and make recommendations for correction of the problem.

Coordinates with DMH to ensure diet plans are developed; and with nutritional supply for alternatives foods and supplements. Adjusts food preferences when applicable.

Attend pertinent and required nutritionally related meetings both with DMH and campus wide. Maintain registration status.

Design and conduct in-service training programs for staff. Assist in developing and reviewing written policies and procedures, in cooperation with the facility MCIP's and DDSN directives. Perform routine dining room inspections to assist in maintaining safety and sanitation standards.

Plans and conducts nutritional programs, workshops, trainings and in-services for personnel and special groups.

Ancillary functions: Reviews and signs food service bill. serves as back-up to patient records representative for dispersing administrative admission and discharges.

Other duties as assigned.

Minimum And Additional Requirements

A bachelor's degree in nutrition, dietetics or community nutrition and experience in a clinical, public health or institutional setting; or a bachelor's degree in any field, eligibility for registration by the American Dietetics Association and experience in a clinical, public health or institutional setting.

Must be registered dietitians and be able to be licensed through the South Carolina Department of Labor, Licensing, and Regulation.

Institutions of Higher Learning must be recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation

Preferred Qualifications

Thorough knowledge of nutrition and diet therapy. Must understand scientific principles involved in nutrition management and apply them in daily practices. Membership in the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics is encouraged with registration required.

State Disaster Plan: In accordance with the State's Disaster Plan, which includes hazardous weather, DDSN employees may be required to work in times of an emergency or disaster.
