About the role
The Nurse Practitioner (NP) – Alcohol and other drugs (AOD) role will provide expert clinical service to support the recovery of people experiencing mental health difficulties with a key focus on specialist AOD screening, assessment, treatment and referral. This will include the provision of support and advice to GMHWS families, medical, nursing, allied health, GP’s and other health and welfare services who are engaged with the person receiving services from GMHWS

Key Responsibilities

  • Demonstration of advanced clinical practice through comprehensive mental health, alcohol and other drug and risk assessments and physical screening of clients referred to the AOD team.
  • Provision of expert knowledge in both mental health and AOD, inclusive of nursing interventions/ treatments that are evidence based and contemporary
  • The provision of primary and secondary consultation to ensure integrated treatment care and support of people living with mental illness and substance use and addiction
  • Comprehensive care planning and initiation, adjustment and/or continuation of medications in accordance with scope of practice.
  • The provision of brief non-pharmacological interventions including (but not limited to) supportive psychotherapy, psycho-education and other psychological interventions.

Skills and experience

  • Current registration as a Nurse Practitioner
  • Masters level Nurse Practitioner qualifications (or those deemed equivalent by AHPRA)
  • At least 5 years clinical experience in a senior nursing role
  • Demonstrated ability to work with people with complex Mental Health Disorders and associated co-morbid presentations

This position is paid in accordance with the Victorian Public Mental Health Services Enterprise Agreement. The classification is Registered Psychiatric Nurse Grade 6 (NP61) which ranges from $71.89 per hour
