Examples of Work
This position serves as the sole Physical Therapist for the Physical Therapy Department at Villa Feliciana Medical Complex, an acute and long term care hospital whose mission is to operate health care programs which provide medical care and treatment for residents with acute, subacute, and chronic illnesses and/or disabilities resulting from trauma or genetic defects.
VFMC is a specialized 24-hour medical facility operating with 150-175 staffed beds, with a license capacity of 299 beds. All beds are licensed as hospital beds. The facility operates a small hospital care service that is surveyed by health standards using hospital licensing requirements, with the remainder of the facility surveyed annually under CMS and state standards for nursing facility care. Specialized units include 10 beds for acute and subacute care including a ventilator care and wound care service, and the only inpatient tuberculosis program in the state. The facility is staffed with a table of organization of 216 classified positions and 20+ unclassified positions with a budget in excess of $25 million. The physical plant consists of two patient care buildings, administrative building, activity buildings, support service buildings, staff residences, and a variety of storage and special purpose structures, located on a 157-acre site with its own fresh water system, sewer system, chiller and boiler systems, and electrical distribution system. This facility has control of passage with a security gate at entrance.
75% Assumes sole responsibility for daily management, organization and development of the physical therapy department.
Participates in Treatment Care Plan Team evaluations to assess residents’ need for physical therapy.
Develops and implements treatment plans and goals, carries out individual treatments according to established professional practices, modifies procedures and equipment as circumstances warrant, and determines when each resident has reached their maximum potential.
Coordinates with physicians, nursing services and other health care providers to provide total resident care and resolve problems concerning individual treatments.
Coordinates with Nursing Service to offer consultation, education and supervision in special handling of difficult residents, such as bariatric residents and certain residents with neurological issues.
Participates in resident staffing’s, documents progress in resident charts and or in electronic medical records, ensures evaluation reports, progress notes and discharge summaries meet survey standards.
20% Works with administrative personnel and occupational therapy concerning departmental needs, and establishment of departmental goals and objectives. Implements changes and oversees daily activities of the department.
Prepares administrative reports, statistics, and guidelines for the department as needed or requested.
Works with occupational therapy and quality management in developing and implementing appropriate measures for the Quality Assurance Program.
Works with occupational therapy to develop, revise and implement policies and procedures relevant to the overall rehabilitation program. Keeps abreast of administrative mandates and changes in policy and procedures.
Coordinates and participates in staff development training and departmental in-service programs. Develops rehabilitation programs in areas of treatment services, research and education. Trains subordinate professional and paraprofessional nursing staff on physical therapy techniques.
Coordinates with nursing services and occupational therapy to develop, implement and supervise a Restorative Nursing Program.
Collaborates with occupational therapy to order supplies and make appropriate equipment recommendations needed for the rehabilitation department. Prioritizes equipment needs, selects, orders and maintains equipment and supplies.
5% Attends annual mandatory training and meetings and serves on committees as needed or requested.
Performs other duties as assigned in order to maintain a smooth operation of the department
