Job Summary: Updated: 2020

Alongside the Director, develop, organize, and maintain a fitness program for members in an effective, efficient, and professional manner. Serve as an ambassador of the fitness operation and programming to members. Manage all fitness staff and maintain facilities in accordance with expected high service standards and experiences.

Education and/or Experience

Five years’ experience in a spa and wellness facility.
Two years of fitness facility or program management experience.

Essential Job Tasks/Duties

Promotes and markets the Fitness Department and its programs and services to the membership.
Receives and addresses complaints and feedback regarding the Fitness Department and advises/consults the Director about appropriate action taken. according to Fisher Island Club member problem resolution policy.
Suggests new fitness equipment and programming in line with industry trends and member desires to the Director, considering the evolving demographics of the Island membership to include children and families.
Ensures the fitness team sets up and breaks down assigned class studio, maintains neat and well stocked studio, before, after and throughout the day.
Monitors and reports on classes and programs; makes recommendations to meet changing needs based on attendance and trends.
Maintain all documents relating to fitness services and programming, including service protocols and training manuals.
Supervises the upkeep and organization of fitness facilities including the fitness floor, studios, equipment, pools, and locker rooms.
Maintains the inventory of supplies for the operation of the Fitness Department.
Informs and follows-through with the Engineering department and equipment service providers or service contractors about problems or deficiencies as they arise; ensures that the fitness areas are clean and functioning to high standards.
Alongside the Director, responsible for recruiting, selecting, and orienting new fitness instructors, fitness trainers and attendants.
Supervises fitness team inclusive of instructors, trainers and attendants and coordinates their duties.
Provides training and professional development opportunities for fitness staff and ensures that staff maintains all recommended and required industry certifications.
Is responsible for coordination of in-house trainings and meetings and communications for the fitness team and works cooperatively with vendors and

trainers.
Assists in the development of policies and procedures related to all Fitness Team members in cooperation with the Director.
Interacts cooperatively and demonstrates respect, sensitivity, and concern for members’ and team member needs with a professional and pleasant manner.
Provides coaching and discipline according to policy as needed.
Provides appropriate reports regarding payroll, scheduling, job changes, shift reports, overtime authorizations and event costing.
Trains all staff to work according to established safety procedures; makes recommendations to improve the safety of the work environment for both employees and members.
Attends and actively participates in monthly club management staff meetings, and weekly spa department management meetings.
Participates in the Spa MOD program and daily line up communications to the department.
Attends Spa Committee meetings when requested and provides necessary assistance and guidance.
Interacts with other departments for improving member services.
Enforces club rules and policies, especially those pertaining to safety and conduct in the fitness and locker room areas.
Completes other appropriate duties assigned by the Director.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

Ability to bend, stretch, twist or reach, walk, stand, stoop, climb stairs, balance and/or crouch.
Push, pull and lift 50 pounds.
Must often work in a wet, humid/hot and noisy environment.

Additional Duties

Will be expected to assist and perform various demonstrations and events
To be adaptable and accountable for all actions.
Must attend all training courses as deemed necessary, must adhere to training as set down by Director of Spa.
Adheres to Fisher Island standards for member service
