Fitness Center Manager at College of Southern Maryland

Position Summary

The Fitness Manger will report to the Fitness Center Coordinator and will assist with the oversight, supervision and management of the daily operations of the fitness center. The Manger will remain current with trends in the fitness and wellness industry and in the development of programs, assist with personal training assist with personal training and, group fitness as needed and supervise the department’s student staff. The Manager will work with team members to support all areas of the department and will assist in ensuring safety and the general oversight of the PE Building and athletic fields.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities

Essential Functions:
 

Monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of the fitness center while providing excellent customer service and high-quality programs Collects data on fitness center activities and utilization, prepares monthly reports for the Coordinator Stays abreast of best practices in the field to enhance services in response to the changing needs of students, faculty and staff Works with Coordinator to develop safe and effective fitness center procedures and operations  Evaluates, measures and assesses fitness training needs of clients, and develops group and individualized exercise programs  Responsible for providing holistic programming and coaching that includes but not limited to motivation, education, and guidance on proper nutrition, conditioning, resistance training, mobility and recovery to assist in developing to the best of their ability Evaluates, measures and assesses fitness training needs of all users and develops group and individualized exercise programs as needed Educates and instructs proper biomechanics and safety precautions during scheduled programs and workouts Creates and supervises activities/programs in the fitness center/gym to support the needs of the college community Assists the Coordinator with identifying potential safety hazards in the PE Building and on the athletic fields Responsible for daily upkeep of Fitness Center and its equipment relative to safety and hygiene Ensures all equipment is maintained and calibrated annually  Creates and supervises activities/programs in the Fitness Center/Gym to support the needs of the college community Serves as a Hiring Coordinator  Recruits, hires, supervises, evaluates and schedules student assistants for the department  Oversee the completion of the onboarding process for new employees to include required trainings Ensure all fitness center staff are First Aid and CPR certified  Supports all departmental activities/events Contributes to departmental, division and college wide strategic planning processes  
Additional Duties:

Performs other related work as required. Minimum Education and Training Associates Degree required, Bachelor’s Degree preferred 2-3 years of fitness center/coaching experience preferred 1 year of supervisory experience preferred CPR/First Aid certification preferred Nationally recognized certification in strength and conditioning, fitness training or personal trainer preferred  Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft office suite required Demonstrated excellence in Customer Service required Proficient/accurate data entry sills preferred Budget management experience preferred Excellent communication skills; written and oral Minimum Qualifications and Standards Required

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Superior interpersonal skills required dealing with the general public, outside agencies and peers in a dynamic environment. Training principles for various populations Health and fitness nutrition theories Basic principles and practices of budget preparation and maintenance  Emergency and safety procedures pertinent to the operation of a fitness center Ability to work independently Principles of supervision and training Record keeping procedures
Physical Requirements:

The work is medium work which requires exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
