3 Things About Browns Victory Over Colts

1 – WHAT A WIN!!!

It was not perfect by any means, but the drive to end the game got it done as Kareem Hunt scored the game-winning touchdown at the one-yard line with 15 seconds left to give the Browns a point victory.

Led by backup QB PJ Walker, the Browns drove 80 yards on twelve plays with two critical penalties called to keep the drive alive, once after it appeared the game was over with the Colts recovering a fumble, but overturned by a Colts illegal contact penalty holding up WR Amari Cooper (correct call). 

2 – Super Myles

Myles Garrett was superhuman in this game, accounting for seven tackles, two sacks, and two forced fumbles, and one of the fumbles ended with a Browns touchdown in the endzone.  And oh yeah, he also blocked a field goal by leaping over the offensive line, LITERALLY!!

3 – Watson Injured

Starting QB Deshaun Watson was hit on a play early in the game that ended up with an interception.  Watson wanted to return, but Head Coach Kevin Stefanski decided against it going with Walker.  Stefanski did announce after the game that Watson is the starter for the game against the Seahawks.  

Overall:

What a crazy victory for the Browns; Garrett and kicker Dustin Hopkins deserve a lot of credit.  Hopkins made four field goals, including three from 50 plus.  Meanwhile, the Watson drama will continue for another week as he was named the starter—time for a victory nap. 

Game Summary

In a thrilling Week 7 showdown on the road, the Cleveland Browns emerged victorious over the Indianapolis Colts, securing a nail-biting 39-38 win.

The Browns wasted no time, seizing the lead on the third play of the game as Jerome Ford sprinted for a sensational 69-yard touchdown. However, the Colts responded swiftly, with Josh Downs making a remarkable 59-yard touchdown catch on their opening drive.

The lead changed hands as Gardner Minshew powered the Colts ahead with a 17-yard touchdown run. The Browns rallied to tie the game, courtesy of Kareem Hunt’s touchdown run, aided by a Myles Garrett forced fumble on Minshew. A blocked field goal allowed Dustin Hopkins to add a 44-yard field goal, making it 17-14, but Minshew answered with his second rushing touchdown, putting the Colts back in the lead at 21-17.

The first half continued to showcase Myles Garrett’s brilliance, with a second sack and forced fumble, leading to Tony Fields II recovering the ball for a touchdown. At halftime, the Browns led 27-21, following a 54-yard field goal by Dustin Hopkins.

Early in the fourth quarter, Matt Gay’s 27-yard field goal granted the Colts a 31-30 lead, capitalizing on a Browns’ fumble that offered Indianapolis excellent field position. However, Hopkins quickly regained the lead for the Browns with a remarkable 58-yard field goal.

The Colts fought back once more, with Minshew connecting with wide receiver Michael Pittman for a spectacular 75-yard touchdown. The game’s final twist came as Kareem Hunt punched in the game-winning touchdown from one yard out.

Key Performances:

Offensively, Deshaun Watson struggled early, going 1-of-5 for five yards and an interception before exiting the game due to an injury. P.J. Walker stepped in, completing 15-of-32 passes for 178 yards with an interception of his own.

Colts’ running back Jonathan Taylor rebounded with 18 carries for 75 yards and a touchdown, along with 45 yards on three receptions. Quarterback Gardner Minshew went 15-of-23 for 305 yards, delivering two touchdowns and an interception. He made a crucial big-time throw but had three turnover-worthy plays, subject to review, and added two rushing touchdowns.

Defensively, Myles Garrett was the standout player, amassing two forced fumbles on sacks and a blocked field goal in the first half. Za’Darius Smith sealed the win with a crucial Minshew fumble.

Julian Blackmon shone for the Colts’ defense, contributing with an interception, a pass breakup, and two tackles for loss. Kenny Moore II notched a sack and two tackles for loss, while Dayo Odeyingbo recorded another sack.

Among the rookies, Colts wide receiver Josh Downs had a breakout performance, amassing 125 yards on five receptions, including a 59-yard touchdown on the opening drive. Browns’ fourth-round rookie offensive tackle Blake Freeland faced challenges against the Browns’ formidable defense. Unfortunately, rookie cornerback JuJu Brents left the game with a quad injury after playing 18 snaps in the first half.

Dawand Jones continued to impress for the Browns at right tackle, excelling in pass protection and delivering strong performances as a run blocker.
