Game Recap 9/13/23 | Guardians Lose to The Giants 6-5

Post-Game Live Recap

3 Things About Guardians Loss to the Giants

1 – 8th Inning Meltdown and Walk-off

Eli Morgan entered the game in the bottom of the 8th with the Guards up 5-2, and sadly, it did take long for the Giants to tie it up.  Morgan gave up the lead before getting an out with a JD Davis game-tying three-run home run after hitting the first batter and giving up a single.
Xzavion Curry came on in the 10th and walked the first two batters before giving up the walk-off sacrifice fly to end the game.

2 – JRAM

Jose Ramirez set the tone with a two-run home run in the first Inning to put up the Guardians 2-0.  The Guardians led 4-0 after the first because of a Giants error.

3 – Logan Allen

Logan Allen pitched well, going five strong while only giving up one run on five hits.

Game Summary

In the decisive moment of the tenth inning, LaMonte Wade Jr. delivered a game-winning sacrifice fly as the San Francisco Giants staged a thrilling comeback against the Cleveland Guardians, prevailing with a 6-5 victory in the third game of their series on Wednesday.

Xzavion Curry (3-4) found himself in a tough situation, walking two batters to load the bases with no outs. Wade then launched a fly ball to left field, where Patrick Bailey managed to beat a powerful throw from left fielder Steven Kwan. Bailey skillfully slid beneath Bo Naylor’s tag at the plate, and after a video review, the call was confirmed.

The game had seen its fair share of drama earlier, with J.D. Davis leveling the score in the eighth inning by crushing a towering three-run homer to left.

Camilo Doval (6-4) stepped up with an impressive 1 1/3 scoreless innings on the mound, securing his first victory since August 20.

José Ramírez contributed to the Guardians’ cause by hitting his 215th career home run, tying Larry Doby for seventh place in the franchise’s history. Josh Naylor chipped in with an RBI single, highlighting the offensive prowess of every Cleveland starter.

The Giants (75-71) made a valiant effort to close the gap, with Luis Matos and Wilmer Flores delivering crucial RBI singles. This win brought them within just one game of the Arizona Diamondbacks in the race for the final National League wild-card spot. Meanwhile, the Diamondbacks were scheduled to face the New York Mets later on Wednesday.

Cleveland had initially surged to a 4-0 lead in the first inning, thanks to Ramirez’s two-run homer and a throwing error by third baseman Casey Schmitt that allowed two more runs to score. However, Matos responded for the Giants with an RBI single in the bottom of the first, beginning their comeback journey.

Trainers Room

Ramón Laureano returned after missing three games with a jammed left thumb. Laureano went 1 for 5 with a double. … RHP Triston McKenzie (sprained right elbow) was scheduled to make a rehab start for Double-A Akron on Wednesday night.
