Game Recap 8/15/23 | Guardians Beat the Reds 3-0

Post-Game Live Recap

3 Things About Guardians Victory Over the Reds:

1 – Awesome Allen

Logan Allen had an excellent night with six shutout innings while giving up four hits with seven strikeouts.

2 – JRAM

Jose Ramirez was moved up in the lineup to the two-hole and he delivered with a two-hit night. Steven Kwan also got two hits as well, maybe protecting Kwan will benefit both.

3 – Clase in Session

Emmanuel Clase had a nice bounce back after blowing the save on Saturday, he was able to lock down the save on Tuesday night for his 32nd on the season.

Game Summary

In Tuesday night’s match, rookie Logan Allen delivered a solid performance by allowing only four hits in a span of six innings. Kole Calhoun contributed significantly with a two-run single in the first inning, propelling the Cleveland Guardians to a 3-0 victory over the Cincinnati Reds. This win marked a crucial achievement for the Guardians, securing consecutive victories for the first time in three weeks.

José Ramírez made a notable return after serving a two-game suspension due to an altercation with Chicago White Sox shortstop Tim Anderson. In this year’s inaugural Ohio Cup matchup, Ramírez showcased his prowess by going 2 for 4. His batting position was adjusted, with him taking the second spot in the order for the first time this season.

On the mound, Allen (6-5) exhibited his skill set by striking out seven batters and issuing three walks. This victory ended a drought for the Guardians, who hadn’t secured consecutive wins since their three-game winning streak from July 25-27. Notably, this triumph followed impressive starts by other Cleveland rookies, Gavin Williams and Tanner Bibee.

The Guardians’ pitching squad continued to excel. Enyel De Los Santos struck out pinch-hitter Joey Votto, preventing a runner on second from advancing in the seventh inning. Trevor Stephan maintained the momentum by retiring the side in order during the eighth inning. Emmanuel Clase showcased his reliability by pitching a one-hit ninth inning, securing his 32nd save in 41 opportunities.

Cleveland (58-62) entered the day as the second-ranked team in the AL Central, trailing the Minnesota Twins by 4 1/2 games.

Cincinnati (62-59), on the other hand, faced a challenging phase, having lost 10 out of their last 13 games. Despite already matching their win total from the previous year, the Reds started the day just one game behind the Miami Marlins for the final NL wild card spot.

The game’s dynamics were set early as Steven Kwan kicked off proceedings with a single, followed by Ramírez’s line-drive double that left fielder Spencer Steer struggling in the sun’s glare. Following a strikeout from Andrés Giménez, Calhoun’s hit to left field drove in both runners, solidifying their lead.

In the seventh inning, Kwan contributed yet again with an RBI single, extending the Guardians’ advantage.

Pitcher Graham Ashcraft (6-8) faced a tough outing, allowing all three runs and seven hits over seven innings.
