Game Recap 7/30/23 | Guardians Beat The White Sox 5-0

Post-Game Live Recap

3 Things About Guardians Victory Over the Chicago White Sox

1 – Home Runs!

Steven Kwan got the home run party started with a solo homer in the 5th inning.  Two batters later in the 5th, Jose Ramirez gave the Guardians another lift by hitting a solo shot and then followed that up with a second dinger in the 7th, a 2-run shot to deep right field.

2 – Superb Civale

The Guardians really needed this win on Sunday against the White Sox, and Aaron Civale delivered.  Civale went six shutout innings only giving up three hits.

3 – Silly Willy

Will Brennan went 1 for 4 on the day, but it was Brennan’s glove that got the attention as he made two great sliding catches, one in the bottom of the 6th and another in the bottom of the 8th.

Game Summary

José Ramírez had a stellar performance, smashing two home runs and driving in three runs to lead the Cleveland Guardians to a resounding 5-0 victory over the Chicago White Sox on Sunday.

In the same game, Steven Kwan also contributed with a home run, adding to the celebration as manager Terry Francona achieved his 1,927th win, surpassing Casey Stengel to claim the 13th spot on the career list.

Aaron Civale, who has been garnering attention as a potential trade target ahead of the upcoming deadline, delivered an impressive performance on the mound. He secured his second consecutive win, pitching six solid innings and allowing only three hits while striking out four and walking two.

Civale has been on fire lately, boasting a remarkable 3-0 record and a stellar 2.08 ERA in his last seven starts.

After Civale’s departure, Enyel De Los Santos, Trevor Stephan, and Emmanuel Clase stepped in and closed the game with authority, completing a four-hit shutout.

The victory enabled Cleveland to split the four-game series with the White Sox, maintaining a balanced 53-53 record.

On the opposing side, White Sox right-hander Michael Kopech had a decent outing, conceding three runs and four hits in five innings. He struck out two and walked five during his performance.

Kwan ignited the scoring for the Guardians in the fifth inning, launching his fifth home run of the season. Following a strikeout by Andrés Giménez, Ramírez took the stage and blasted a deep shot to right field, adding to his impressive 17-home run tally for the year.

In the seventh inning, after Giménez drew a crucial two-out walk, Ramírez once again showed his power by smashing another home run to right field, widening Cleveland’s lead to 5-0.

The Guardians’ first run came in the second inning when Giménez drew a bases-loaded walk with two outs. Kopech’s command faltered, issuing four walks and a wild pitch in the inning.

The White Sox had a chance to rally in the sixth inning, with runners positioned at second and third base with just one out. However, Civale skillfully navigated the situation, inducing a pair of flyouts to maintain the shutout and secure the win for Cleveland.

Trainers Room

Cal Quantrill (shoulder inflammation) threw a bullpen session. He has been on the injured list since July 6.
