Observations from the Game

3 things about Guardians Victory Over Atlanta Braves:

1 – FRY FRY FRY

After a terrible bunt attempt by Gaberial Arias that led to a double play, David Fry saved the day with a game-winning, walk-off single to win it for the Guardians in 10!  Need to see more of David Fry.

2 – Super Rosario!

Amed Rosario keeps hitting in the clutch with four RBIs and three of those RBIs happened with two outs.  Rosario also hit a solo home run in 6th. 

3 – Bieber and Clase  

Shane Bieber has almost gone a full month without a win as he struggled tonight against the Braves only going 4 2/3 innings and giving up four earned.   

Emmanuel Clase’s struggles also continued as he gave up a home run in the 9th, blowing his 7th save on the season.  Clase has given up six runs in his last three appearances.

Game Summary

In Tuesday night’s game, David Fry delivered a game-ending hit, propelling the Cleveland Guardians to a 6-5 victory in 10 innings and snapping the Atlanta Braves impressive nine-game winning streak.

With the bases loaded and two outs, Fry connected with an 0-1 pitch, driving it beyond left fielder Eddie Rosario’s reach. This hit allowed José Ramírez to score from third base, securing the win for the Guardians. Braves’ closer Raisel Iglesias intentionally walked Andrés Giménez, setting up the crucial at-bat for Fry.

The Guardians’ center fielder, Myles Straw, played a vital role earlier in the game by throwing out Sam Hilliard at home plate in the top of the tenth inning. Hilliard, who started on second base as the automatic runner, advanced to third on a fly ball. However, Straw’s exceptional fielding of Eddie Rosario’s line drive and an accurate throw to Fry at the plate resulted in a double play, keeping the game tied.

Ennyel De Los Santos, pitching for Cleveland, took the mound in the tenth inning and successfully held off the Braves offense, securing his team’s victory.

The Atlanta Braves entered the game on a remarkable hot streak, winning 17 out of 18 games and 24 out of 27. With eight players selected as All-Stars, the Braves boasted the best record in Major League Baseball (57-28).

Amed Rosario emerged as a key contributor for the Guardians, driving in four runs during the game, including a go-ahead single in the seventh inning. Ozzie Albies, who hit a two-run homer in the fifth, tied the game in the ninth with a leadoff home run off Cleveland’s closer, Emmanuel Clase.

The scoring started early for Cleveland when Amed Rosario’s two-run double in the third inning gave them an early lead. However, Atlanta responded in the fifth inning, erasing a 2-0 deficit by scoring four runs. Albies contributed to the comeback with a home run, and Travis d’Arnaud’s RBI single gave the Braves the lead. Eddie Rosario added a run-scoring double to extend their advantage.

Cleveland’s Steven Kwan played a crucial role in the game, delivering a single in the seventh inning to tie the score. He then stole second base and came home to score on Amed Rosario’s single through the right side.

Atlanta struggled to generate hits against Cleveland’s ace pitcher, Shane Bieber, until the fourth inning when they finally broke through. Despite Bieber’s early dominance, the Braves managed to score four runs in the fifth inning, tying the game. Acuña Jr.’s one-out single and stolen base set the stage for Albies’ towering home run, his 22nd of the season.

Bieber showcased his skill by escaping a bases-loaded jam in the first inning, but the Braves offense eventually caught up to him. He ended up allowing four runs, six hits, and a career-high five walks in 4 2/3 innings. Bieber threw 97 pitches during his outing.

Ronald Acuña Jr. continued his impressive performance for the Braves, drawing a leadoff walk in the first inning and adding a single in the sixth. With these contributions, Acuña became the first player to reach 20 home runs, 40 stolen bases, and 50 RBIs before the All-Star break, solidifying his status as a four-time All-Star outfielder.

TRAINER’S ROOM

Josh Naylor (right wrist tendinitis) was out of the lineup. Imaging tests showed swelling and Naylor is considered day-to-day.
