The Belgium-Sweden Euro 24 qualifier halted at halftime due to a terrorist attack in Brussels. Early reports indicate that two Swedish fans were shot and killed ahead of the game near the venue. 

UEFA has called the incident a “suspected terrorist attack.” Belgium consequently raised the Brussels threat level to four, the highest level.

The Swedish Football Association (SVFFF) issued a message to Swedish supporters, saying, “The Belgian police want Swedish supporters to stay in the arena for security reasons. Take part in information from officials, authorities and SvFF (Swedish Football Association) staff on site.

“We will return when the Belgian authorities provide us with new information. Keep calm and take care of each other. Our thoughts go out to all the relatives of those affected in Brussels.”

Swedish fans could be seen changing “Sweden” in solidarity with the victims at King Baudouin Stadium. 

Players of both teams decided not to make a second-half appearance after hearing the news. Sweden scored the game's first goal in the 15th minute, while Romelu Lukaku equalized for the Red Devils ahead of the halftime whistle. 

“Due to the incidents in Brussels Earlier Tonight, play is suspended. Our thoughts are with all those affected,” the Belgian national team tweeted. 

A special unit of the Belgian police led 35,000 fans safely out of the stadium after the horrific events.
