The important governing bodies in swimming in India

There are two main governing bodies in Swimming in India. One is the Swimming Federation of India which is the national body for all aquatic sports in India.

The other is SGFI, the national governing body for school sports in India. The SGFI organizes swimming competitions for school children under the Khelo India School Games program.

What is SGFI in India?

What is Khelo India?

Khelo India is a national sports development program launched by the Government of India in 2018. The program aims to revive the sports culture in India at the grassroots level by providing better infrastructure, training, and support to young athletes.

Khelo India School Games are held annually for under-17 athletes. The games are a platform for young athletes to showcase their talent and compete with other talented athletes from across the country.

The 5th Khelo India Youth Games was held in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh. The games featured 27 sports and had beencompeted by over 8,000 athletes from across the country.

Khelo India has helped to promote sports among school children and to create a sporting culture in India.

The eligibility criteria for Khelo India swimming competition are as follows:

  • You must be an Indian citizen.
  • You must be born on or after January 1, 2005.
  • You must have a valid Swimming Federation of India (SFI) UID.
  • You must have achieved the qualifying time in the respective event. The qualifying times are released by the SFI before the start of the competition.
