Josh Doan To Make NHL Debut Tuesday For Arizona

A second generation of the Doan family is set to make his NHL debut for the Arizona Coyotes on Tuesday vs. the Columbus Blue Jackets.

Josh Doan, son of former longtime Coyotes captain Shane Doan, has been recalled from the Tucson Roadrunners is expected to be in the lineup tomorrow night. A former 2nd round pick (37th overall) from the 2021 NHL Entry Draft, Doan is about as “desert” as it gets in the world of hockey.

Not only is he son of Shane Doan, who spent 21 seasons with the Coyotes, but the Scottsdale native also grew up in the Phoenix area, attended Arizona State, and currently leads Tucson in scoring with 26 goals and 20 assists across 62 games.

In fact, to date, only two of Doan’s hockey seasons have taken place outside the state of Arizona. Between 2019-2021 Doan player two seasons for the USHL’s Chicago Steel, before returning back to the desert for two collegiate campaigns at ASU.

With no suspected absences amongst the club’s 12 healthy forwards, it would appear as though this is a standard recall and not one born out of an emergency loan process. Doan’s call up is the second post-trade deadline recall that Arizona has made after moving defenceman Michael Kesselring a few weeks prior.

While fans will likely get a better idea of where the newest Coyote will slot into the lineup during morning skates, initial reports suggest that he could assume a third line role alongside Matias maccelli and Jack McBain. That would likely push forward John Leonard down the lineup or up to the press box for the club’s date with Columbus.
