Bruno Guimaraes has a release clause valid for one month this summer according to Fabrizio Romano, but he won’t come cheap.
Newcastle star Guimaraes – affectionately known as ‘Bruno G’ – has blossomed into one of the Premier League’s best midfielders since joining Newcastle in a €42.1 million move from Lyon in January 2022.
The Brazil international has repeatedly said that he is happy in Tyneside, and signed a five-year extension with the Magpies in October.

That hasn’t stopped Manchester City, Arsenal and Paris Saint-Germain from being linked with a move for him, and now a hidden detail of his latest contract has come to light.
There may have been a bidding war for his services anyway, but transfer specialist Romano has detailed exactly how much Guimaraes would cost his potential suitors – provided they act fast.

“EXCLUSIVE: Bruno Guimaraes’ release clause will be valid from the last week of May to the beginning of the last week of June,” he post on X (formerly Twitter).
“£100m release clause is only valid for that month. In July/August, Newcastle would have total control of price and potential negotiations.”

Guimaraes is valued at €54.2m by FootballTransfers’ in-house algorithm, so the clause, which works out at €116.6m, is above market value, but a bidding war beyond June could ensue, and he is unlikely to let a buyer down.
A defensive or box-to-box midfielder by trade, Guimaraes is in the third percentile for successful take-ons among player in his position in the Premier League over the last year, and has averaged nearly four shot-creating actions per game.
A £100m or €116.6m fee for Newcastle would be their record sale, surpassing the £35m (€41m) they received from Liverpool for Andy Carroll in 2011.
He could become the Premier League’s joint-second most expensive midfielder alongside Declan Rice and after Enzo Fernandez, who cost Chelsea €121m when he moved from Benfica last January.
