Fabrizio Romano has provided an update on Manchester United transfer rumours linking Erik ten Hag’s side with a striker who could potentially act as support to Rasmus Hojlund next season.

Until Hojlund found his scoring touch in the second half of the season, United had been struggling for a regular goal scorer, despite Scott McTominay proving an unlikely source of joy from midfield.

As such, there is a belief that Man Utd will chase another centre-forward this summer as part of the overhaul of the club.

Although the Red Devils have been linked with big names such as Brentford’s Ivan Toney, such a player could potentially stunt the development of Hojlund.

Recent rumours associating Man Utd with a move for Ajax Striker Brian Brobbey, meanwhile, appear more realistic given Hojlund would remain the undisputed No.9. He is also a player rumoured to have been on the Red Devils’ shortlist for some time.

Romano, though, has played down the possibility of the forward who has 21 goals in 39 games this season arriving at Old Trafford.

“We’re seeing fresh rumours about Ajax Striker Brian Brobbey, who is being linked with both United and Arsenal,” Romano wrote for the Daily Briefing.

“My understanding, however, is that there is nothing concrete to this story so far. Brobbey has been linked with Man United since Ten Hag joined as manager, while I’m not aware of anything else with Arsenal at this stage.

“Ajax will discuss Brobbey’s future in the summer but, again, we need to see who they pick as their new manager and what kind of strategy they want to adopt.”

Tuchel to Man Utd latest

Romano also provided an update on the Red Devils’ links with Bayern Munich head coach Thomas Tuchel.

“We’re waiting for Manchester United to decide the future of Erik ten Hag at the end of the season – this is going to be one to watch for sure,” Romano says.

“Still, despite rumours about Ten Hag’s future and about Thomas Tuchel possibly being the club’s preferred replacement, I’m not aware of anything else with other managers now.

“There’s nothing with Tuchel yet, so far. There have also not been any contacts between Tuchel and Bayern to continue at the club and change his mind about leaving this summer; what happens in the next weeks I don’t know, but so far they haven’t discussed the possibility to change his mind and keep him.”
