Ex-Chelsea star and Shelbourne manager Damien Duff channels his inner Jurgen Klopp in passionate celebrations after witnessing his side stage a dramatic late comeback against St Patrick’s Athletic in the Dublin derby

  • Duff was made Shels manager in 2021 and led them to FAI Cup final last season
  • Shelbourne had lost the last three games against their rivals St Patrick’s Athletic
  • Substitute Euclides Cabral scored a late winner to clinch a thrilling victory

Shelbourne Manager Damien Duff held nothing back in his passionate celebrations after witnessing his team stage a late comeback over Dublin rivals St Patrick’s Athletic.

The former Chelsea star, who was appointed as boss of the Irish top-flight side in 2021, masterminded the first Shels win in the fixture in four attempts.

Duff’s side had gone behind to Joe Redmond goal in the 20th minute and were staring at a fourth consecutive defeat to their rivals with only ten minutes left on the clock at Tolka Park.

But goals from Euclides Cabral and Paddy Barrett, the latter coming in added time, sent the home support – and manager – into raptures.

The magnitude and manner of victory energised the 44-year-old to perform a celebration even Jurgen Klopp would have been proud of.

Paddy Barrett’s leveller in the 80th minute got the home side back into the tie at Tolka Park

In front of the fevered support, Duff furiously punched the air four times before geeing up the crowd and continuing his run around the ground.

The former midfielder already endeared himself with the Shelbourne faithful after leading the team to the FAI Cup Final last year, where they came unstuck against a ruthless Derry City side.

The win sees Shelbourne climb to fifth in the standings, a point behind Bohemians in fourth and a further three behind St Patricks.

Duff’s side take on Cork City on September 22 which begins a run of seven games to see out the campaign.
